Whenever I or some pundit to whom I link suggests that radio blabber Rush Limbaugh is a racial bigot, I get dissent from a few of our Applesauce regulars. Some even argue that I hang the racist label on almost anyone who dares criticize Barack Obama, which isn’t even remotely true.
Anyway, if there ever was any doubt about Limbaugh’s racism (and there’s tons of evidence from over the years to sustain that charge), his tirade of yesterday should be enough to convince all but the most closed-minded.
The backstory here is that U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said the other day that he thinks Obama is intentionally trying to ruin the economy and increase unemployment as part of some scheme to destroy capitalism.
Limbaugh picked up on Sessions’ game and raised the stakes:
The [economic] deterioration reflects lower tax revenues and higher costs for bank failures, unemployment benefits and food stamps. But in the Oval Office of the White House none of this is a problem. This is the objective. The objective is unemployment. The objective is more food stamp benefits. The objective is more unemployment benefits. The objective is an expanding welfare state. And the objective is to take the nation’s wealth and return to it to the nation’s quote, “rightful owners.” Think reparations. Think forced reparations here if you want to understand what actually is going on.
Think reparations? Think forced reparations here…?
Yeah, and think sniveling bigot.

I’m going to be out of the loop until this evening, during which time you can use this post as an open thread for discussion of whatever you want.
Meanwhile, see if you can up with correct answers to these two questions:
 1. Which is the most populous state that is NOT home to at least one major league sports team (NBA, NFL, NHL or MLB)?
 2. Which is the LEAST populous state that IS home to at least one major league sports team?
Correct answers will appear in the comments section when I get back.

The right wing of the Republican Party seems to think that President Obama has handed it a weapon with which to beat him over the head the minute he comes up with a nominee to replace David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court.
The weapon is a single word: Obama said the other day that he wants the next justice on the high court to be a person of “empathy.”
Empathy? Sound the general alarm! Man your battle stations! We have to save America from the evil of empathy!
No, actually, we have to save America from the silliness of political extremists who seem not to own dictionaries.
 HERE’s the deal.

No wonder Dick Cheney thinks it was his job as vice president to do what he thought was right without regard to the niceties of law and the Constitution.
As Andrew Sullivan POINTS OUT, Cheney seems not to have understood the words he uttered in his oath of office.
UPDATE: Incidentally, Cheney said the other day that he would prefer Rush Limbaugh to Colin Powell as a spokesman for the Republican Party.
Ah, but Powell is far, far MORE POPULAR than either Cheney or Limbaugh.
UPDATE II: Not to be outdone by her father, Liz Cheney SAYS President Obama is siding with the terrorists.
