Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Blogger Greg Sargent provides some badly needed PERSPECTIVE on the Nancy Pelosi-CIA kerfuffle over who-knew-what-and-when regarding torture of suspected terrorists:

Three senior Democrats — Pelosi, Bob Graham, and Jay Rockefeller — have all publicly claimed that the CIA didn’t brief them about the use of torture in the manner the agency has claimed. Meanwhile, the CIA itself has conceded that its own accounting may not be accurate.

Yet key facts that cast doubt on the CIA’s claims have been buried or completely omitted from multiple news reports.

UPDATE: THIS GUY cites the hypocrisy of Republicans implying that Pelosi was perhaps criminally complicit in the use of interrogation methods that the Republicans don’t consider to have been crimes.

UPDATE II: Incidentally, anyone who thinks there’s no precedent for CIA officials lying to members of Congress doesn’t remember Richard Helms, who was convicted for doing just that SORT OF THING.

UPDATE III: Here’s MORE STUFF on the media ignoring CIA Director Leon Panetta’s misgivings about his agency’s version of congressional briefings on torture.

UPDATE IV: Madeleine Kane (HERE) has come up with a nice little poem:

The CIA’s under attack
By the Speaker who gave it a smack.
She accused it of lying.
The GOP’s crying:
She’s mean and must take it all back.

UPDATE V: THIS GUY accuses Pelosi of betraying the public trust.

UPDATE: A few questions for our Pelosi-haters to ponder:

If Madame Speaker is lying, as the right-wingers claim, why then is she pushing for empanelment of a truth commission to get to the bottom of all this torture stuff?

Wouldn’t a truth commission expose her falsehoods?

Or is she confident that the truth is on her side?

 Just askin’.
