Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Whatever shaky claim to dignity and self-respect Roland Burris might have maintained since assuming a seat in the U.S. Senate a few months ago is pretty much gone in light of THIS.

When President Obama said a few weeks ago that he wanted a Supreme Court nominee who has “empathy,” every political loonie in America waxed apoplectic.

But when then-President George H. W. Bush SAID 18 years ago that he had chosen Clarence Thomas for the high court because of his “great empathy,” nary a peep was heard from the right-wing guardians of constitutional purity.

UPDATE: Speaking of goofy conservatives, THIS, too, is good for a few laughs.

Methinks the wingnuts aren’t going to like this:

Gen. David Petraeus, the Republican Party’s favorite military man, SAYS President Obama’s decisions to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and end harsh interrogation techniques will benefit the United States in the broader war on terror.

 UPDATE: More on Sotomayor HERE.

UPDATE II: Sotomayor has been the target of a WHISPERING CAMPAIGN for weeks.

UPDATE III: Right-wingers are going to make a big deal about this casual remark by Sotomayor four years ago:

UPDATE IV: THIS GUY examines the likely Republican lines of attack on the Sotomayor nomination and the inherent political risks therein.

UPDATE V: HERE’s how current senators voted 11 years ago on Sotomayor’s nomination to the federal appeals court.

UPDATE VI: Will Senate Republicans filibuster the Sotomayor nomination?

 Only if they’re blatantly hypocritical.

Here’s a collection of GOP declarations against the very notion of filibustering judicial nominations:

UPDATE VII: Wingnuts already are FIRING AWAY at the Sotomayor nomination.

UPDATE VIII: Here’s Obama’s announcement of the nomination:
