Limbaugh admirer likens him to Jesus
May 29th, 2009 at 02:48pm Pat Cunningham
If I may, I’d like to preface this story with a little background.
The first time I ever paid any real attention to Erick Erickson was two years ago this month, when I happened across something he had written on his conservative blog, RedState.com.
It was the day after one of the early Republican presidential debates, and I was looking for commentary on the event. My Googling efforts toward that end led me to read Erickson’s recap of the debate. His PIECE gave me none of the useful insights I had been looking for, but I was nonetheless amazed at how the points he tried to make were so disorganized, illogical and contradictory.
In short order, Erickson declared that “John McCain won” and that “Fred Thompson…really won.” He said that “not one of the men on the stage rose to a level to really stand out” and that “Mitt Romney shined, he stood out, he did well.” Getting back to McCain, Erickson said he “reigned supreme.”
And, as if to chastise himself, Erickson also said: “Let’s not dance around about this.”
In the 24 months since then, I haven’t much concerned myself with Erickson’s writings. Nor did I attend a speech he delivered a few months ago before a group of Rockford Republicans.
Yesterday, however, I had occasion to read an Erickson post on RedState that characterized criticisms of Rush Limbaugh (and two other right-wingers) by his fellow conservatives as akin to St. Peter’s shunning of Jesus as described in the gospel of St. Mark. (Read it HERE.)
The moral of all this is that I should have resolved two years ago to pay closer attention to the writings of Erick Erickson, if only for the laughs.

How asinine can these Fruit Loop Cons get?
Jesus had long hair, wore sandals, and preached about peace and humility. Jesus ran the “money changers” out of the temple. Jesus had immense compassion for the poor and downtrodden. And Jesus believed in paying taxes (”Render unto Caesar…”).
I have to admit, though, that the comparison of Limbaugh with Jesus easily tops Sean Hannity’s comparison of Dubya with Lincoln and Truman in terms of sheer delusion.

FLASHBACK 1997: Rush Limbaugh warned Senate: Sotomayor, ultraliberal on ‘rocket ship’ to Supreme Court

I can see how followers of “The Messiah” would be upset about this.
4. shawnnews | May 29th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Interestingly enough, he only people who call Barack Obama “The Messiah” are smug conservatives who are upset that for the first time sonce John kennedy, liberals are actually excited about a candidate, rather than saying “Well, he’s better than the Republicans.”
No snuss, no one who likes Obama calls him “the Messiah.” They call him the president.
To be fair, the author of that article didn’t do a big comparison of Limbaugh to Christ. He used a religous allusion (too dramatic) and then chastised his readers for not being loyal enough to people who helped out the cause before.
Christ told his followers to sell everything they had and give the money to the poor.
Limbaugh makes comments aginst the poor, regularly lies about his oppents, he used to have homeless races, call women femi-nazis, etc.
I suppose what is annoying is how many conservative people who call themselves Christians, seem to use Limbaugh as a source. The incosistency is obvious to most people outside the conservative movement.

I find that those who attack Rush, and other Conservatives, rely solely on out-of-context sound-bites upon which to base their opinions. For example, “femi-nazis” refers to a dozen or so prominent, militant feminists, not all women.
“The Messiah” is an appropriate description, as many of his followers think he is going to pay their mortgages, give them money (taken from the PRODUCTIVE members of our society), and solve all their problems, with just the force of his personality..

LOL It’s always quite comical when Jesus is described as standing for peace, love and humility. It shows that people that make these comments have never even read scripture….or have the capabilities of understanding it. Ya see Clay and Shawn, Jesus was HATED because He told the truth, is the truth and STATED IT BLUNTLY. Liberals in the party of Satan need to throw the cliche out there about how Jesus was such a milktoast. Sorry WRONG. His bluntness got Him crucified. Get it yet?? Keep clinging to the sinful ideas that your ideaology professes, abortion, homosexuality, adultery etc and you will one day get to meet Jesus first hand and you will find out He doesn’t like the things you back. Limbaugh is Jesus-like in the sense that he is very blunt which makes him courageous. Limbaugh points out right and wrong….. just like Jesus did!!! Alas, libs don’t like black and white, eg right and wrong. They like gray which is Lucifers color. The party of Satan and their messiah Obama is destroying the United States and you are all hapless fools assisting them.

Mike,
That is truly amazing! You completely deny that Jesus is portrayed in the Gospels as preaching a message of love, forgiveness and tolerance, Please give us your interpretation of the parable of the ‘Good Samaritan’ and of the ‘Prodigal Son’. How do you get a message a stern judgment from the ‘Sermon on the Mount?’
Matthew 5:3-10.
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
How can you claim that the person who said that does not stand for ‘peach, love and humility’ ?

mike, the self-styled theologian, is almost a parody of himself. Countless clergy and devout laity of various Christian denominations have characterized Jesus as “standing for peace, love and humility.” But mike says “people that make these comments have never even read scripture….or have the capabilities of understanding it.”
And then mike, in emulation of his fellow wingnut Erick Erickson, likens Limbaugh to Jesus.
I’m telling you folks, it’s getting increasingly difficult for us progressives to satirize these right-wing loons. Their own utterances are so laughably over-the-top that it’s impossible to exaggerate them.
By the way, mike, the word is “Milquetoast.”
9. shawnnews | May 30th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Milquetoast is a character from a comic strip called the Timid Soul.

Mike– you are right that Jesus is often portrayed to suit the ideology of a particular branch. But Erickson exaggerates by seeing Limbuagh as someone by denied by Republicans like Peter denied Jesus.
10. shawnnews | May 30th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
I have never thought of Democrats as the “Party of Satan.” At worst, they are inefficient, wasteful and corrupt depending on the region. Of course are you insinuating the Republicans are “The Party of God?” There is another word for that you might be more familiar with — Hizbollah.
But no, the Democrats do not enofrce the sex codes of any religion. They believe individuals can do that themselves.

ummmm never said He did not stand for peace love and humility. But you all seem to forget that He is also JUSTICE. You all can just keep thinking that you are mighty progressive intellectuals that are far more rational than those right wing loons. Funny, sounds like a lack of HUMILITY there, more PRIDE and ARROGANCE. Well the justice is coming very soon and if you can’t see whats going on in the world today than I really pity you.
Ahhh Pat you are hilarious. You are a perfect example of being educated into imbecility. You “progressive” fallen away Catholics are a perfect foil for the devil. Perhaps you should enlighten yourself in more spiritual matters, maybe study them a little harder. See, I was once where you were, a fallen away Catholic, but I took the time to study on my own instead of blaming Boylan or Aquin, like so many ex-catholics do for the piss poor job they do of teaching the faith.
As far as Limbaugh Pat, here it is again, see if you can understand it this time, slooowwwllly nooww he is like Jesus in the fact that he is not afraid to say what is RIGHT and WRONG. See, Jesus said He does not like luke-warm, He will spit you out if you are. Pope John Paul, Benedict, Ronald Reagan, John Corapi these are other good examples of men not afraid to say what is right and wrong. Pat, these men would be a good place for you and your entourage to begin that study course.
By the way Pat, are you now an idiot for calling me a loon , or Ericson a nut? I thought you “progressives” were so much above name calling. Oh that’s right, being called an idiot does not apply when you progressives call names because you are far more intelligent than us right wing loons.
And by the way I prefer milktoast so my un-educated cohorts can pronounce it.

I am a Conservative, but Rush is a loud mouth and I rarely listen to his radio show. I prefer more level headed, intelligent men such as Micahel Medved. Rush is no closer to being like Jesus than the next guy. Those that refer to B-Rock as “The One” or “The Messiah” probably would not appreciate the photo I have of him in my office with red horns coming out of his head. Many of my fellow workers enjoy, it though.
13. David Barrett | May 31st, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Art,
Those who refer to Obama as “The One” or “The Messiah” are all conservatives as near as I can tell. They would probably enjoy your picture very much.
14. David Barrett | May 31st, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Mike,
You sure did, as everyone reading this can clearly see just by scrolling back up to your previous message.
Not only did you say that Jesus did not stand for peace, love and humility you claimed that people who claimed he did were ignorant. You may now wish you had not said it, but there it is in black and white.
15. Pat Cunningham | May 31st, 2009 at 2:48 pm
David: You make a good point on that “Messiah” stuff, but you’re only going to confuse poor Art.
16. Art | May 31st, 2009 at 5:52 pm
No, it is the left wing, liberal media that painted B-Rock as the chosen one. They gave this evil, illegal alien way more press than he anyone should have had.
He is the Anti-Christ. Kenya can have him back any time.
17. David Barrett | May 31st, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Pat,
LOL. You are a prophet — obviously very confused.
Art,
LOL, I had heard the Anti-Christ charge before but him being an illegal alien is a new one. How could he be an illegal immigrant to the United States, no matter where he was born, if his mother was a citizen?!? The popularity and success of Obama seems to have unhinged your mind so that you are spouting blatant and obvious nonsense.
18. shawnnews | June 1st, 2009 at 4:41 am
Art- I am a Christian person. I like Obama a lot. Does that make me the Anti-Christ too? Using that rhetoric is what gets people in a lot of hot water. In fact, since the majority of the country claims the Christian religion, that means a lot of Christians voted for him. Does that make them anti-christs or apostates or whatever terms you want to use?
