Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Krugman says it’s all Reagan’s fault

Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman faults Ronald Reagan and his posse for our current problems.

 Says Krugman:

There’s plenty of blame to go around these days. But the prime villains behind the mess we’re in were Reagan and his circle of advisers — men who forgot the lessons of America’s last great financial crisis, and condemned the rest of us to repeat it.

Anybody in favor of torturing the guy accused of killing the abortion doctor?

 waterboarding-2.jpg

Scott Roeder, the 51-year-old suspect in the shooting death of abortion doctor George Tiller, has a long record of association with extremist groups and once was arrested for having bomb-making materials in his car.

So how do we know that he hasn’t planted a bomb somewhere out there? Could it be that we’re facing the kind of ticking-time-bomb scenario that some folks see as justification for waterboarding and other forms of torture?

These are troubling questions, friends. And I’m sure that all the torture freaks on the political right readily recognize that this case is tailor-made for what they euphemistically call “enhanced interrogation techniques.”

Heaven forbid that the self-styled patriots suddenly show themselves to be hypocrites in this matter.  Heaven forbid that they oppose the use of torture in a case where the suspected terrorist is a right-winger.

THIS GUY shares my concerns about all of this.

UPDATE: Here’s a PROFILE of Scott Roeder.
