Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

To wingnuts, a polite nod is a groveling bow

22 comments June 3rd, 2009

 This is pretty funny.

The Drudge Report and various other looney-tunes outlets on the political right are having a fit over what they see as undue deference toward President Obama on the part of a major player in the mainstream media.

NBC News has been running feature stories this week on the network’s unprecedented access to the routine workings of the White House. The following video clip shows anchorman Brian Williams politely nodding to Obama as they part.  But the wingnuts see the gesture as a sycophantic bow:

UPDATE: Dan Froomkin SAYS NBC’s stuff about the Obama White House amounts to “subtanceless fawning.”

Thomas Frank, a progressive, SAYS the Republican Party could regain power in 2012 by characterizing Democrats as stooges of Wall Street.

Hollow populism, avers Frank, is better than none at all.

UPDATE: THIS GUY argues that Republicans won’t return to power “until they show some curiosity about their mistakes.”

UPDATE II: Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker SAYS “the Republican base is becoming a remote island in mainstream America. Everyone else is paddling away.”
