Newt Gingrich opined the other day that it’s “intellectual nonsense and stunningly dangerous” for an American, especially an American president, to declare himself a “citizen of the world.”
The barb was aimed at a remark made by Barack Obama in a speech last year in Berlin.
Apparently, however, Newt seems to have forgotten, if he ever knew, that Ronald Reagan also once called himself a “citizen of the world.”
Then, too, Gingrich borrowed his attack on Obama from stuff John McCain and other conservatives said last summer, as we see HERE.
So, now we’re left to wonder whether the Newtster is losing touch with reality. Look at the evidence: He acts as if Obama’s visit to Berlin last year is news; he shows himself to be ignorant of Reagan having said the same thing for which he now faults Obama; and he seems oblivious to the fact that others in his party already scolded Obama on this matter before backing off in light of the inconvenient Reagan comparison.

At this writing, various media are reporting that the suspect in a SHOOTING INCIDENT this afternoon at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington is 89-year-old James Von Brunn (above), who has a long record of anti-Semitic and white-supremacist rants.
Gleanings from Von Brunn’s writings and activities can be found HERE and HERE and HERE.
UPDATE: Big surprise! Von Brunn apparently is a “birther” — that is, a lunatic-fringer who QUESTIONS whether Barack Obama is American-born.
UPDATE II: THIS STUFF indicates that Von Brunn also is anti-Christian.
UPDATE III: Does this case vindicate the Department of Homeland Security with regard to its CONTROVERSIAL REPORT of several months ago warning of the potential for violent acts by political extremists?
UPDATE IV: Some of the stuff to which I offered links in the second paragraph of this post is at least temporarily unavailable (perhaps because the sites have crashed under the load of hits).
Meanwhile, let’s see how long THIS SUMMARY of James Von Brunn’s views remains accessible.Â

THIS GUY wonders why social conservatives have so little to show for the years when Republicans controlled both the White House and Congress.
