Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

The nation’s largest employer has joined with a major labor union in a MOVE seen as a boost to President Obama’s push for health-care legislation.

Wal-Mart (I thought all you liberals thought they were evil) is simply trying to force additional costs on their competition. Wal-Mart already has health care for their employees so a law mandating coverage doesn’t impact them but does hurt their competition. Self interest on the part of wal-Mart, nothing more.

Why would Wal-Mart even care. They get most of their products from China. They want to bury what remains of US companies. Just like their buddy Obama.

You’re 100% on target with this one, Mike. To think that the nation’s largest retailer, which has invested many years and tens of millions of dollars to bust and discredit unions, would suddenly turn altruistic towards labor, is absurd.

Profit and greed trumps everything else, you know. Concern and compassion are for weenies only.

    A few thoughts:

    1. I believe around 1/2 the people who don’t have health insurance aren’t in the position that they can’t afford it, its just that they don’t want it. Most of these people tend to be younger and in good health. By forcing their employees to use the program, Wal-mart benefits.

    2. I really don’t see a problem with having a health insurance mandate at least for large corporations. In fact, the system would even be better if various corporate insurance was portable. (i.e. non-wal-mart employees could buy wal-mart health insurance)

    3. Mandates for small private companies will certainly cause some problems.

    4. The National Retail Federation and The U.S. Chamber of Commerce oppose this move but…..(see #5)

    5. At least this is better than the lame-brain idea of a single-payer system/socialized me

Sure, it is like GE, they own NBC, which is very favorable to Obama. Which their CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, is an advisor and supporter Obama. Now GE is poised to make a lot of money off of \"Green Energy\". GE is highly invested in these technologies. Now all Jeff needs is Cap and Trade and all would be good for GE but the rest of us get to foot the bill. It all boils down to follow the money to get the truth.

While I certainly don’t agree with that comment as a generalization, it is true more than we like to admit. I am always reminded of Lenin’s famous quote ” The capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them”.

I’ll be willing to settle for government-run health care as soon as the President, the House, and the Senate will accept the exact same system for themselves. Don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

realfoxnews- I’ll assume that you did suffer the brain injury that you have referenced. If that is indeed the case, make sure that you go through the rehabilitation that is recommended by your doctors. I speak from some experience as my younger brother suffered a brain injury and he refused the rehabilitation services that were recommended. He has never recovered and there is no expectation that he will get better.
His injuries impacted his ability to organize his thoughts rationally and severely damaged his short term memory. Prior to his accident he was an independent sales rep and now he is on SSI.
    Listen to your doctors.

Brain injury or not, anyone who thinks Wal-Mart is doing this for the goodness of their workforce needs their head examined.

Single payer is _the_ way to go; not doing so is foolish. Single payer seems to work for Police Protection, Fire Protection, Military Protection, Tax Collection, and so on-besides having insurance companies lay off employees (boo hoo hoo cry me a river), why can this not work?
