Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

When I was dealing with my computer hassles the other day, I ran across this video, which I had posted about four months ago.
It’s pretty cool stuff, as I said back in early spring, and it’s worth sharing again:

Frank Rich RE-EXAMINES the legacy of Walter Cronkite and applies it, unflatteringly, to today’s mainstream media:
Watching many of the empty Cronkite tributes in his own medium over the past week, you had to wonder if his industry was sticking to mawkish clichés just to avoid unflattering comparisons. If he was the most trusted man in America, it wasn’t because he was a nice guy with an authoritative voice and a lived-in face. It wasn’t because he “loved a good story” or that he removed his glasses when a president died. It was because at a time of epic corruption in the most powerful precincts in Washington, Cronkite was not at the salons and not in the tank.

Photos from U.S. spy satellites declassified last week by the Obama White House provide the first graphic images of how polar ice sheets are retreating in the summer.
The effects on the world’s weather, environments and wildlife could be devastating.
The Guardian has the STORY.

Did you know that the single largest part of the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 — more than one-third of it — is tax cuts?
Did you know that the second-largest part — just under a third — is direct relief to state governments and individuals? The money allows state governments to avoid laying off teachers, firefighters and police officers and prevents states’ budget gaps from growing wider.
Did you know that the final third is financing the largest investment in roads since the creation of the Interstate highway system? Construction projects at military bases, ports, bridges and tunnels? Long overdue Superfund cleanups? Improvements in badly outdated rural water systems? Upgrades to overtaxed mass transit and rail systems? And lots more things?
I know a guy who knows these things. His name is Joe (no, not the plumber), and HERE’s what he says.
