Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

Roger Simon’s comment about a segment of our society unable to come to grips with a black president are spot on.

Copy and Paste from an opinion piece on this issue-
“The indisputable fact is that Obama has not released his birth certificate, which the state of Hawaii issues for all citizens born there.
Instead, his campaign has released only his certification of live birth from the state of Hawaii, which is a document that offers a summarized version of the birth certificate.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, GOP nominee Sen. John McCain quickly released his birth certificate when liberal bloggers raised questions about his eligibility to be president. McCain was born at a military hospital in Panama.
Obama likewise could put the matter to rest by releasing his actual birth certificate, which would show, among other things, the place of his birth and the doctor who performed the birth procedure. This information is not provided on the certification of live birth.
As it stands, Obama is the only president in history whose birthplace is unknown to the public – a fact that would be stated on the actual birth certificate. Interestingly, his family has mentioned two different hospitals in Hawaii as the place of birth.
The fact that Obama has refused to release his actual birth certificate does not mean conspiracy theorists are right when they claim he was born in Kenya and therefore not eligible to be president. Investigators who have reviewed the claims have found no evidence Obama was born outside of Hawaii. ”
It is easy enough to put this issue to rest and one wonders why the Obama Administration has not done so. One can rationally conclude that there is information on the birth certificate that they do not want revealed although I can’t imagine what it might be.

Mike Carroll,
Whatever you are quoting (curious that you do not give a source or provide a link) is completely wrong. The ‘certification of live birth’ which the Obama campaign has on it’s website is the only kind of birth certificate that Hawaii releases. Hawaii does not release to the public any other birth document, nor is there any reason or need to since the ‘certification of live birth’ includes all the information required by the the federal government to establish that someone is a citizen of the United States.
Anyone who claims that it is possible that someone who has been certified by a state as being born in that state might still not be legally qualified to be president ‘because they are not really a natural born citizen’ should explain how that could be possible and explain what kind of evidence they think could be ‘out there’ that could prove their suspicions. What would the evidence that would ‘trump’ the Hawaiian ‘certification of live birth’ look like? What exactly do they propose we look for?

Mike Carroll’s copied and pasted document says: “…his campaign has released only his certification of live birth from the state of Hawaii, which is a document that offers a summarized version of the birth certificate.”
There you go. All the information is from the supposed “long form” birth certificate and the state of Hawaii has said so. That should be enough for reasonable people.
Now I sympathize with you, in the fact that you supposedly have unanswered questions. But what would they be? Did Barack Obama weigh more than the average baby? What did his hand and footprints look like?
I know it would be irritating not to see the specific document you want… if it exists for anyone. But let’s say that someone goes for a job interview and is harassed like this: You know this birth certificate is not good enough, we need your long form birth certificate since you aren’t a white man. You could be an illegal alien and it would be illegal for us to hire you.” I’ve worked with enough people who know how to slow-walk and stonewall others to know people would do this.

Newsmax? First time I visited but looks like a Conservative site.
Just to be clear, I have not paid much attention to this issue because the “certification of live birth” should settle the qualification matter but I do wonder why the administration doesn’t just issue a birth certificate and be done with it. I know Hawaii doesn’t issue them but there is no reason why Obama can’t. Am I missing something?

Mike maybe he doesn’t show the other certificate because the people who want to see it, are not people he cares about. Not like by seeing his certificate of birth they are going to vote for him in the next election. The people that are asking for more proof don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The courts have ruled. Let it go people.

The campaign released a valid legal document from Hawaii, which is enough to get a driver’s license in that state, and a U.S. passport, among other things. The Hawaii Governor has stated he had no problems with this.
So, if you don’t believe that’s enough, then there have been hundreds of people involved in this conspiracy from, basically, the day President Obama was born. If the President needs to produce anything more, then maybe we should require all the nation’s sitting governors and members of Congress to produce their birth certificates. Why stop with the President?
The more the Repubs push this, the more foolish they look.

Joe sez, “Mike maybe he doesn’t show the other certificate because the people who want to see it, are not people he cares about.” Could this be true? Are there people out there that Obama does not care about?

Real fox news. If Obama drives anywhere, they’ve accepted the birth certificate he posted on the web as reality. You should too.
