Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Some Freeporters seem to think it’s funny to joke about assassination of President Obama

I received a copy this morning of an especially ugly e-mail that’s been making the rounds in the Freeport area. It’s a joke about the possible assassination of President Obama.

To avoid revealing my source of this garbage (a friend who finds it disgusting), I’m providing THIS LINK from elsewhere. (Warning: The e-mail includes a crude sexual reference.)

Incidentally, I’m reliably informed that the Freeport resident who’s been circulating this particular e-mail among his friends regularly peddles blatantly racist stuff about Obama.

I don’t like Obama but I don’t think there is anything funny about him get killed

This is pathetic - some racist, bigoted loser (my best guess is a lily-white fat ignoramous sitting around in a dirty t-shirt watching the TEE-vee and eating Ding-Dongs - be they male or female) circulates email about the President of the United States being assassinated and gets away with it. When, during the Bush administration, you couldn\’t THINK dissident thoughts about the government without fear of someone coming to your door to question and/or arrest you as an enemy of the state.

Geez, Jan. Your description of this “racist, bigoted loser” is awfully racist, and bigoted, in content……….

  • 4. Jan  |  July 30th, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Oh well. I’m sick of people like that being the only ones flinging epithets.

Jan: Actually, it’s my understanding that some of the names on the e-mail list of the Freeport guy who sent this garbage are those of seemingly respectable members of the community. Of course, that doesn’t make them responsible for what this other guy sends them. But if I were one of them, I would verbally blast this creep to Kingdom Come. Come to think of it, I wonder if the Secret Service would be interested in this guy. Assassination of the president is no joking matter.

Of course it’s nobody’s fault that RECEIVED the email - you can’t prevent garbage in, it’s the garbage out that’s the issue. I guess you could call my prior little lambast racist, but like you I just wanted to verbally blow this creep out of the water, albeit vicariously, with a taste of his own putrid medicine.

Actually, I first heard this joke in the late 1980’s, only with different names of course. The first time around, it was Ronald Reagan himself speaking with John Hinckley, and the object of Jodie Foster’s affections was then-Speaker of the House, Tip O’ Neill.

Twenty-some years later, it’s still a lousy joke.

I\’m curious Pat, what was your opinion of the liberal losers that wanted to kill Bush??

  • 9. Pat Cunningham  |  July 30th, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Mike: Anybody who advocated the assassination of Bush was, by definition, not a liberal. An extreme leftist maybe, but not a liberal. Not everybody on the left is a liberal, just as not everybody on the right is a conservative. Klansmen and neo-Nazis, for example, are not conservatives. They’re right-wing extremists.

Bottom line: you don”t have to like the President but you have to respect and honor the office. Advocating or even joking about killing the President is taken very seriously by the Secret Service and can be a felony offense. This has nothing to do with politics. It’s wrong if it’s about Obama, just as it was wrong about Bush, Clinton, Reagan, et al.

So its a funny e-mail I’ve seen a lot during Bush 8 years in office. Pat how about some of the cartoons that are posted in papers and mags. They are no better. But this one goes after BOBO.

Leave it to realfoxnews to defend this trash. And he thinks it’s funny. What an idiot!

  • 13. realfoxnews  |  July 30th, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Well Pat I guess your as much as a idiot as I’m one. Because every morning you read all your liberal trash news. That slams the GOP in the same way but in other words.

There are people on the left who say and do rotten things also. I know the entire 9-11 “Truth” movement routinely accused Bush, Giuliani and others of orchestrated the 9-11 attacks. However, I’m not sure they would be on the left since so many of them endorsed Ron Paul, a conservative libertarian for president.
