Lawrence O’Donnell puts the lie to Liz Cheney’s nonsense about President Obama’s visit to Dover

Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

“You know what ‘never’ means, Liz? It means zero. It means that in over seven years of two wars, your dad never left the comfort of his White House office or the Vice President’s mansion and got himself up to Dover to bear witness to how his warmongering fell on families of dead American soldiers. Never, not once.”
Without a doubt, the week’s most eloquent, unassailable, and richly deserved smackdown of a Con noisemaker and rabble-rouser. No wonder she refuses to appear on The Rachel Maddow Show — there’s no way she can get away with using her own distinct brand of pretzel logic to defend the indefensible.

If he wanted to honor the war dead he would have done it in private with the families. Asking for the photo op was sad. Reminds me of handing out white coats to all the doctors in the rose garden so the pictures would look better.
I’m sure the soldiers currently serving would appreciate some leadership soon on the direction the war in Afghanistan will take.

You are wrong expdoc. If he wanted to be part of the ceremony, and pay his respects, it’s all good. Who are you to decide that it wrong for him to show up at Dover? Was W too busy down at the ranch to bother? Dick Cheney, and his ilk, make me want to puke. Five deferments?

expdoc: Bush was too busy taking it easy to bother visiting Dover. He was the laziest president in U.S. history. The statistics are almost unbelievable.
In eight years as president, Dubya:
– Visited his Texas ranch 77 times for a total of 490 days;
– Visited Camp David 149 times for a total of 487 days;
– Visited his parents home in Kennebunkport, Maine, 11 times for a total of 43 days;
– Attended 338 political fundraisers;
– Attended 98 sporting events (and that’s counting the Beijing Olympics as only one event);
– And played 24 rounds of golf.
To his credit, however, (ahem) he did manage to attend 49 Cabinet meetings. That’s about one every two months.
And yet, in his public declarations, Bush made countless references to he and his people “working hard” and doing “hard work.” In one appearance in 2004, he used those terms no less than 11 times.
I guess all that time at leisure made it impossible for him to get to Dover. But, of course, he also banned the news media from taking any photos at Dover, even if the families of the returning dead Americans consented to such coverage.

I know, Bush is stupid and lazy and oh yeah, he’s a racist even if he doesn’t know it. Blah, blah, blah. Obama has already played more golf in his time in office than Bush did, who cares? I don’t remember you being critical of how Obama has spent his free time and our money, why are you critical of Bush?

expdoc: Why am I so critical of Bush? Are you serious? Are you blind? Why am I so critical of Bush? That’s rich! I guess we all failed to notice what a wonderful, hard-working president he was. Why, the guy almost never took vacations. You’re funny, doc.

Why did Cheney need and get 5 deferments?

What I am saying to you (and the Democrats) is get over it! You have sought power and achieved it, now lead and end your obsession with Bush. You people truly have a psychological disorder on par with anyone of the right wing radicals you criticize each and every day.
It makes me laugh out loud each and every time I see a post like your comment #4 above and then you follow it up with whining about Fox political commentators criticizing your dear leader who apparently will never vacation, will attend each and every cabinet meeting, never attend a sporting event or play golf and will certainly never attend a political fundraiser while in office.

expdoc: You seem not to have noticed that this post is about Liz Cheney disparaging Obama for his “photo-op” at Dover and claiming that Bush “used to do it [visit Dover] without the cameras.” That’s untrue. Bush never went to Dover.
That’s the point of the video and the point of this post. With comment No. 2, you chose to echo the “photo-op” crap, another example of your chronic Obamaphobia.
But then, when I or anybody else compares Obama’s gesture to Bush’s failure to visit Dover or, for contrast, chides Bush for his record number of vacation days, you tell us to “get over it.”
And for good measure, you inject the race issue, which nobody else here had mentioned.
You’re the one who needs to “get over” your ridiculous Obamaphobia, doc.
Physician, heal thyself.

Why exactly is it photo-op crap? Why did he feel the need to allow pictures of his brave salute? Why did he require the doctors to wear white coats at his contrived ceremony? NO answers from you as usual.
I am telling you Bush is retired and gone. Let it go. Obama is the sitting President, he will now be judged on his decisions and voting not present is not an option.
I also love how my echoing liberals charge that all conservatives are racist is “injecting the race issue” Ha! Saul would be proud Pat.

expdoc: This time you’ve gone too far. This time you’re resorting to out-and-out lies. I’m a liberal, and I have never, ever said that “all conservatives are racists.” Nor do I know of any other liberals who have said that.
I would expect nonsense like that from some of our more demented regulars, but not from you.
As I’ve said before, doc, you must be overworked.

Get off the high horse Pat, you’re likely to slip and fall and break a hip. Soon, at your age, that could prove to be a fatal injury.
Did I say it was Pat Cunningham’s charge? Nope, But, I clearly remember blog discussions on this very site where I was told that if I, a conservative, disagreed with President Obama then I was racist. Even if I did not realize it, in my poor conservative head I was indeed being driven by my racism.
Still no answers on the photo-op? Good news though, I understand the Afghanistan leadership issue has been solved and so I am interested in hearing the Commander in Chief tell us where we are headed in Afghanistan. Soon.

Hopefully we are headed out of Afghanistan
