Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Here’s how a Pentagon appointment by Obama triggered a bloodbath among Republicans

 Frank Rich NAILS IT.

 A few excerpts:

Barack Obama’s most devilish political move since the 2008 campaign was to appoint a Republican congressman from upstate New York as secretary of the Army. This week’s election to fill that vacant seat has set off nothing less than a riotous and bloody national GOP civil war. No matter what the results in that race on Tuesday, the Republicans are the sure losers. This could be a gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats through 2010, and perhaps beyond…

The more rightists who win GOP primaries, the greater the Democrats’ prospects next year. But the electoral math is less interesting than the pathology of this movement. Its antecedent can be found in the early 1960s, when radical-right hysteria carried some of the same traits we’re seeing now: seething rage, fear of minorities, maniacal contempt for government, and a Freudian tendency to mimic the excesses of political foes. Writing in 1964 of that era’s equivalent to today’s tea party cells, the historian Richard Hofstadter observed that the John Birch Society’s “ruthless prosecution” of its own ideological war often mimicked the tactics of its Communist enemies.

What bloodbath? Scozzafava stepped down, after the public made it’s will known. They preferred the CONSERVATIVE candidate, to the RINO.

Holy hyperbole, Batman!!! The truth is, SNUSS Nails it! The lack of a primary, where a conservative would have easily defeated the RINO is the reason this traditionally right of center district polled so badly for the Republican. Rich is whistling past the graveyard by painting this as some kind of civil war within the GOP.

Frank Rich is of no importance. He is a coward.

mike: At least Frank Rich isn’t treasonous, like someone I could name. By the way, how goes your campaign for a military coup against the Obama administration? Are you and your fellow wackos making any progress?

I see that Scozzafava has shown her true RINO colors, by endorsing her former opponent, the Democrat, Bill Owens. Shades of “Specter, the Defector”.

SNuss: At least the Democratic candidate lives in the district, which is more than you can say for the wingnut candidate. Maybe Scozzafava simply prefers a local resident to an outsider.

Illinoistom: Obama carried that district over McCain, 52 percent to 47 percent.

Pat: pure Bush fatigue. Had a case of that myself, but couldn’t vote “hope and change” (har de har har) to cure it.

I believe it is a crime as well, but either way the police department should be contacted.
I know from first hand experience that the Rockford police department is second to none in dealing with these crimes. My son was molested by a stranger when he was 3 and they were nothing but professionals in dealing with my son, my wife and I as well as the criminal, who was succesfully prosecuted.
