Homophobes are a dying breed

As we’ve pointed out here before, opposition to gay marriage is much more common among older Americans than younger folks.
Eventually, then, most of the homophobes will just die off.
HERE’s a chart that dramatizes the demographic gulf on the issue.

It’s too bad that americans who disagree with laws enacted solely for the purpose of protecting a special group of people based on their sexual preferences are labeled “homophobes”. Talk about labeling!

“protecting a special group based on their sexual preference”?????
Lets begin with the phrase “special group.” What you’re implying by that is that LGBTQ people are treated and percieved by the population at large as being “special.” The reality is that LGBTQ people are treated and percieved by much of the population as “perverted” “wrong” “sinful” or at the very least an “oppressed minority.” I don’t know where the hell you pulled “special” out of all that.
Second of all people are not asking to be specially protected “based on their sexual preferences.” People are asking to finally be EQUALLY protected REGARDLESS of sexual orientation.
Regardless of whether or not it is appropriate to make a generalized statement or label about or for a specific group of people, to be quite honest, you need the shut the fuck up. “Oh poor bigoted me, with all my privelidges and discriminatory practices is being discriminated against through name-calling because when I voted to deprive a group of people of their civil rights
(a group of people who, mind you, have been called FAR worse things than “homophobes” and all the while being beaten to death until those are the last words they hear)
a few people in that group and a few of their allies made a word to say back to me.”
One that doesn’t even insuate your hatred, your ignorance, or you bigotry. A word that I would even go so far as to say is compassionate in its nature, acknowledging that your anger and confusion comes from a place of fear. So suck it up, open your mind, look at the history of civil rights, and recognize that if you continue in the direction you are headed, “history will remember you as a bigot.”
