Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

I can’t disagree with this

I want to deal with THIS MATTER before Thanksgiving Day, during which it would be bad form to dwell on such negativism.

There’s more on the subject HERE (including a video).

Please, I’ll take the last 10 years over the 70s any day.

    Let’s compare:

    Vietnam vs.Iraq - Advantage Iraq
70’s gas shortage vs. high gas prices in ‘08 - Advantage 08
70s high interest rates vs. 10 years of low rates - Advantage 2000s
70s high inflation vs. 2000’s low inflation - Advantage 2000s
Disco music vs. Auto tune hip hop - Advantage hip hop
70s Pittsburgh Steelers vs. 2000’s Steelers - Okay…70’s win that one.
70’s internet vs. 2000’s internet - No contest
70’s muscle cars vs. 2000’s Hybrids - Okay, score another for the 70s
Nixon/Ford/Carter vs. Bush - Advantage Bush
    All in the Family/Happy Days/M.A.S.H. vs. Sopranos/Friday Night Lights/24 - Draw
70s Fashion vs. last 10 years - Again, no contest

So by my score the last 10 years win 8-2-1. Time magazine sucks. Bunch of ungrateful freakazoids.

The last ten were, on average, better than the next ten will be, unless we can get rid of the Far-Leftists running this country into Socialism, bankruptcy. or both.

BTW, Pat, you can order your Oba-Mao T-shirt locally, see: http://www.letsbeheard.net/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=844&PN=1

Typical Con response……desperately try to deflect responsibility for the carnage caused the past 8 years by Bush/Cheney and the FAILED neo-conservative ideology. And you guys call yourselves the party of personal responsibility. Yeah, right.

Neftali, I used to think that you were one of the few sane Cons on this board, but it has become painfully obvious with your recent irreverent posts that you, too, have gone off the deep end and now live in the same zone of Wingnutopia as snuss, DingDong, Richard, Juice, mike, realfoxnews, and the rest of the believers of Fox Fairy Tales.

Mike Carroll is now apparently the lone remaining voice of sanity among the Applesauce Cons.

The 70’s where great; the best music(except disco), the best jobs, and Tricky Dicky with his finger on the button. What more could you ask for, will maybe a few extra years to make it last longer.

I was going to compose another brilliant response but it’s Thanksgiving and the kids and grandchild are home, the Turkey is in the oven and I have a good excuse to have a beer at noon. All is good. Happy Turkey day everyone.

…and one more comment. It is fashionable to give thanks on this day so lets be thankful for Applesauce and its commentators (well, ok, not all but most) and do not interpret this as a suck up to Pat. I have been taking internet/email swings at him since before the 04 election. I’ll go back to figuratively kicking him in the shins tomorrow.

Mike Carroll: Your sudden obsequiousness toward me will avail you nothing. But thanks anyway.

I would like to be, but am not so optimistic about the next decade. I think the United States’ “hill to hike” is going to exponentially increase in steepness. This is due, in general to the “fog” that Americans have allowed our mindsets and behaviors to fall into.

The rest of the world just seems to be skipping past us, as we continue to shuffle backward. This is not the faukt of our President, but rather who we’ve let ourselves become.

Did anyone realize that the EU appointed (notice appointed, not democratically elected through popular vote, mind you) a President of the European Union (who will govern over half-a-billion European people) who takes office January 1, 2010, which represents the first, and likely most significant step toward creating a European superstate? Has anyone heard to the Lisbon Treaty?

This is going to affect what stance we have left as a superpower, and could shift the tide of worldwide politics over time (and not necessarily in our favor).

I don’t recall seeing much about these things in the news over the last few months. Actually, nothing. But the news coverage on Black Friday sales and doorbusters has been at no shortage over the last few weeks.

It just seems like an awfully significant appointment to go so unnoticed by our media.
