The Washington Post, among other news outlets, is REPORTING that it now appears likely that detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be transferred to to an underutilized state prison (above) in the tiny community of Thomson in northwestern Illinois.

My question would be, with bringing 100 to 300 detainee’s how this would create up to 3000 new jobs?
What are they going to hire 10 to 30 people for each new prisoner?
No jail has that many per person!!

WASHINGTON — A deal to house Guantanamo Bay detainees at a northwestern Illinois prison could bring nearly 3000 jobs to the area,
So with Cook County being one of ,if not the largest jails in the country with 9,000-11,000 inmates there on any one day.
That would mean that with the same numbers (figures for projected jobs) per person this jail or affiliates should employ more than 90,000 people.
That sure isn’t true!

As usual, Pat is less than accurate. There ARE privately-run prisons, and their guards are NOT government employees, as the following clearly shows:
Workers (in private prisons) are usually non-unionized and can be hired and for fired more easily than the government employees.

Congress must vote to allow the detainees at Gitmo to be housed on the mainland. Until a favorable vote takes place, they\’re not going anywhere.
