McConnell caves — a bit — on debt issue!

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has SUDDENLY SIGNALED a willingness to retreat a little from the GOP’s previous hard line on raising the U.S. debt ceiling.

I think McConnell recognizes that his party has painted itself into a political corner with its refusal to cut a deal with President Obama and the Democrats on lowering deficits. And now he’s looking for some way to save face without making any concessions on the issue of revenues, which would be anathema to the Tea Party crowd that holds him captive.

UPDATE: There’s more on this matter HERE and HERE.

Meanwhile, far-right pundit Michelle Malkin is having a CONNIPTION FIT over McConnell’s proposal.

UPDATE: Check HERE for another example of wingnut apoplexy. It likens McConnell to Pontius Pilate.

UPDATE: Anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist SAYS he’s in favor of McConnell’s proposal.

Wow…talk about doing a 180. This is going from one extreme to the other. He’s seriously considering giving Obama the power to increase the debt limit on his own? Is McConnell insane?!!? I can’t believe he would seriously consider this proposal over some minor tax increases to the rich. He must be seriously paid off….or threatened by some rich person. His whole stance really makes no sense at all.

I never cared much for McConnell to begin with, now I officially can’t stand the guy. Time for a new Senate minority leader with some real brains. Someone like Lamar Alexander or Scott Brown. Heck I’ll even take Tom Coburn or Chuck Grassley. McConnell has no clue to what he’s doing.
