Romney lies about Obama’s defense spending

It has long been an article of faith among Republicans — manly men that they are — that those wimpy, sissified Democrats are weak on national defense.

It’s nonsense, of course, but the GOPers believe it. To believe otherwise would make them feel emasculated.

Accordingly, Mitt Romney has been running around telling everyone that Barack Obama has dangerously slashed defense spending. But the truth of the matter is reflected in the chart above. (The red bars represent defense spending under George W. Bush, while the blue bars are Obama’s.)

  1. I am guessing that Bush’s numbers do not include the Afghan and Iraq wars since he kept them off budget while Obama is including them.
