Wacky new right-wing conspiracy theory: Social media are biased in favor of Barack Obama

It was only inevitable, I suppose, that the familiar conservative meme regarding the liberal bias of the mainstream media would be expanded to cover the so-called new media.

I noticed a harbinger of this trend about a year ago when some commenter here at Applesauce opined that the Internet was displaying a liberal bias. That notion is preposterous on its face, of course, considering that no one entity owns or controls the Internet. The stuff in cyberspace is comprised entirely of whatever people happen to place there, regardless of their politics.

And now we have the looney theory that such media as Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube are in Barack Obama’s “back pocket.”
