Weird: Crowd breaks into pseudo-patriotic chants when two men kiss at Santorum rally

A campaign rally for Rick Santorum in Arlington Heights, Ill., was disrupted the other night when two men in the audience shouted for attention and then exchanged a kiss (above).

What happened next struck me as especially peculiar: As security people led the kissers out of the hall, much of the crowd began chanting “USA! USA!”

I don’t get it. What does such so-called patriotism have to do with the situation at hand? What kind of homophobic mindset gives rise to spontaneous chants of praise for America?

Perhaps one of you right-wing readers can explain all of this to me.

The story is HERE.

Personally it might be a good idea to focus on real issues that may help people get a leg up in life: issues like social mobility, health care, economic stability, education, and let what one decides to get up to in their downtime be their own issue instead of some politician who is reaching to appease that part of the country that can’t fathom the idea of equality- lest they betray their own masculinity.
