Simon van Zuylen-Wood, with an assist from Jonathan Chait, argues that the desire to vote with the winning team is psychologically, as well as politically, important to menfolk.

Evidence of this comes a from a study showing that men who voted for John McCain in 2008 suffered a big drop in their testosterone after hearing of his defeat and “felt significantly more controlled, submissive, unhappy and unpleasant.”
