Hypocrisy alert: Assault-rifle lover Gayle Trotter opposes Violence Against Women Act

Why am I not surprised by THIS?

Gayle Trotter, the conservative activist who became the breakout starof Wednesday’s gun violence hearing in the Senate with her adamant cry that women need assault rifles to defend themselves, wrote last year that she opposed the Violence Against Women Act.

The reason, she said at the time, was the law would create the prospect of “false accusers” stealing taxpayer money by using shelters and legal aid.

On Wednesday, Trotter used the fear of violence against women to support gun laws that allow access to large capacity magazines and assault weapons in her testimony.

“An assault weapon in the hands of a young woman defending her babies in her home becomes a defense weapon,” she said.

Trotter based her defense of gun rights on the need for women to defend themselves against those who would commit violent acts against them. Back in 2012, she was not as supportive of the federal government’s efforts to protect women with VAWA. The law, she wrote on the websiteof the Independent Women’s Forum, could promote false accusations of domestic violence.

Trotter opposed VAWA, she wrote last year, because it opened the door to false accusers wasting taxpayer funds.

So what does the Violence Against Women Act do that our existing laws don’t already do? Last I checked it was a crime to commit acts of violence against anyone.

  2. Luke Fredrickson says:

    Nef,

The Act provided $1.6 billion toward investigation and prosecution of violent crimes against women, imposed automatic and mandatory restitution on those convicted, and allowed civil redress in cases prosecutors chose to leave unprosecuted. The Act also established the Office on Violence Against Women within the Department of Justice.

Opposed by House conservatives because of fears it “would protect gay men, lesbians, American Indians living in reservations, and illegal immigrants who were victims of domestic violence.”

  3. Todd says:

What it does is deal a bit more with the aftermath. It doesn’t do squat to help prevent it.
It is yet another “feel good” legislation.

  4. Todd’s right. “Feel good” legislation aimed at helping women who get cuffed by their menfolk is a waste.

    Damn liberals!

  5. Steverino says:

The independent Women’s Forum was an offshoot to support Clarence Thomas against Anita Hill.

  6. Big Dave says:

Wow, I’m glad I read this but I only have one question on this subject.

So if Trooter is correct with this statement; “Trotter opposed VAWA, she wrote last year, because it opened the door to false accusers wasting taxpayer funds.”

I always thought that the police were to investigate these matters and the courts if they found the defendant guilty would place the guilty party in jail but now I’m reading that we needed $1.6 Billion to do this.

“The Act provided $1.6 billion toward investigation and prosecution of violent crimes against women, imposed automatic and mandatory restitution on those convicted, and allowed civil redress in cases prosecutors chose to leave unprosecuted. The Act also established the Office on Violence Against Women within the Department of Justice.”

Thank God liberals are in charge of the money! Hahahahahaha Hahahahahaha

  7. TeXan says:

Sounds to me that she must be a “Christian” woman. She would like to kill 5-6 intruders and probably doesn’t cotton to Negroes… Unless she is like Sarah Palin and has a secret fetish for Negroes..

  8. Steverino says:

How disturbing that women in politics are beginning to implement their own legislation to counteract years of old rich white men laws.
