Republican fat cats trying to stave off Tea Party wackos

It remains to be seen if THIS STRATEGY will work:

The biggest donors in the Republican Partyare financing a new group to recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts who Republican leaders worry could complicate the party’s efforts to win control of the Senate.

The group, the Conservative Victory Project, is intended to counter other organizations that have helped defeat establishment Republican candidates over the last two election cycles. It is the most robust attempt yet by Republicans to impose a new sense of discipline on the party, particularly in primary races.

“There is a broad concern about having blown a significant number of races because the wrong candidates were selected,” said Steven J. Law, the president of American Crossroads, the “super PAC” creating the new project. “We don’t view ourselves as being in the incumbent protection business, but we want to pick the most conservative candidate who can win.”

The effort would put a new twist on the Republican-vs.-Republican warfare that has consumed the party’s primary races in recent years. In effect, the establishment is taking steps to fight back against Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations that have wielded significant influence in backing candidates who ultimately lost seats to Democrats in the general election.

The Denocrats had better cone up with their own plan to reduce the debt, deficit and bring spending under control. Now, I am certain that the Tea Party only exists as an anti-Democrat organization. They could care less when Bush was escalating our debt in the misguided Iraq war. But still if they are the only group complaining about spending, then they’ll stick around.
Illinois is in a mess a s having to shut down services like Singer because of spending. That means if the Democrats don’t do the job and fix the mess and pay the bills, Illinois could elect a governor and legislature full of Tea Party, creationist, anti-gay rights, police state conservatives — just because the Dems can’t get it done.

the only ‘whacko’ in the room is you Pat. Reality check. that ‘applesauce’ is really mush for brains. after watching your partys convention and seeing what your ‘platform’ is under the O man, ‘whacko to the hilt’ should be the new dems motto. better run that one by Soros or the O man for the Ok. but i doubt they would take your call, really small potatoes n all.

  3. jjgettys: You’re funny.

News that certain prominent Republican fundraisers have decided that the Tea Party crowd is bad for the GOP sends you into one of your extremist Obamaphobic fits.

You’re exactly the kind of wacko those fundraisers consider bad for their party.

Spending is just one of the problems in this country. But let’s keep the focus on spending, base line budgeting is a problem. Everytime a spending bill is presented it becomes the new baseline, why? Let’s not forget the fact that for 4 years there has been no budget passed, why?
