Two-thirds of Americans — and even half of all Republicans — favor hike in mimimum wage
Republican politicians in Washington are strongly opposed to President Obama’s call for an increase in the minimum wage from the current $7.25 an hour to $9.
There are two fundamental reasons for this GOP stance. The first, and most important, is that President Obama is for it. These people are never going to support anything Obama proposes. It’s just that simple. They’ve said so themselves. But, hey, it’s not because they’re racists. No, sir. There’s not a bigoted bone in any of them. They don’t like anything about Obama, but not because he’s black (or of mixed race, if you insist). It’s because he’s a socialist who’s out to ruin America.
The second reason the Republican pols oppose an increase in the minimum wage is that their lords and masters in the business world generally don’t want to part with any more coin of the realm to pay the serfs.
Funny thing, though. Most of your rank-and-file Republicans like the idea of raising the minimum wage, as do 71 percent of Americans in general.
