New president of NRA is a neo-Confederate who still resents what he calls the War of Northern Aggression

Wow! The best casting director in Hollywood couldn’t have come up with a better stereotype than THIS GUY:

The new president of the NRA is a good ol’ Southern boy, who sounds even crazier than the group’s gun-nut mouthpiece Wayne LaPierre.

Alabama lawyer Jim Porter [above] has called U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder “rabidly un-American” and proudly spews the Confederate line on the Civil War.

In a June speech, Porter noted the NRA was “started by some Yankee generals who didn’t like the way my Southern boys had the ability to shoot in what we call the ‘War of Northern Aggression.’ ”

“Now y’all might call it the Civil War, but we call it the ‘War of Northern Aggression’ down South,” Porter said to the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association.

He also advocates training all U.S. civilians to use standard military firearms so “they’re ready to fight tyranny.”

The south never stopped fighting the civil war. They just laid low. Now we’ve got a significant group from the south and their sympathizers, controlling the body politic and they aren’t going to give it up till they either die or destroy this country in the process. They’re that spiteful And you know what, I bet 100% of them will call themselves good God fearing Christians.

    “The Berry Goldwater quote

Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them….”

What I don’t understand is why are the Earth Liberation environmental groups on the domestic terrorism list but these anti-government zealots and Tea Party patriots are not? Have you ever seen where the Tea Party has been infiltrated by the FBI or the NRA for that matter? But there’s plenty of stories about the Occupy Wall Street movement being infiltrated. Is our govt afraid of the anti-government right or are they just not being very public about their infiltration efforts? I hope the latter, because that movement is only growing. 33% is no small number.

Like I said in a previous post, Hitler was elected with around 33% of the vote. All the far right needs is the right candidate and a 3rd or 4th party candidate on the ballot to pull votes away from a more centrist candidates of each party and the far right can win the presidency. In 1992 we saw Ross Perot pull votes from the Republican candidate and in 2000 and 2004, we saw Ralph Nader pull votes from the Democratic candidate.. It can happen. Do you think that political strategists don’t consider such things are possible and do everything possible to keep the ballot a two party choice?

All it will take is an economy that is falling apart, like it was in 2008 only worse. That isn’t happening right now, but as Paul Krugman notes recently, the GOP wants to inhibit the Fed from keeping this economy afloat, so they can have a bad economy to run a candidate in. Let’s hope they are not successful on either front.

Just because we in the center and left have Obama right now, doesn’t mean that the red meat baiting of the conservatives won’t return when and if a Republican president is elected in 2016. The right – wingers would love to return to those years.

The only positive is that he appears to be to big to wear a white sheet.

I don’t know how anybody could read an article like this and not come away believing the whole intent of the NRA is to be a focal point for the anti-government crowd.

When they say, “”Stand and Fight”-themed convention that is part gun trade show, political rally and strategy meeting.”…””This is not a battle about gun rights,” Porter said, calling it “a culture war.”…”(You) here in this room are the fighters for freedom. We are the protectors,” said Porter, whose father was NRA president from 1959-1960.

How can anybody not think the only reason they want military assault rifles available to them is to use against the government.

Sounds like one of the Founding Fathers. We often call it the War of Northern Aggression or War to Prevent Southern Independence. It was certainly not a civil war, by definition.

Liberals appear to have a mental dysfunction that prevents their brain from processing information in such a manner as to arrive at logical and rational conclusions therefore they seem unable to distinguish fantasy from reality. They are killers of the unborn, soft on crime, supporters of reduced military protection for America, supporters of draconian firearms restrictions or bans, reckless spenders of other peoples money, supporters of immoral homosexuality, lovers of big government, enemies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and big on name calling such as referring to supporters of the Constitution and Bill of Rights especially the 2nd amendment as illiterate right wingers or rednecks. The ignorant, rude, hateful, vulgar, profane disparaging comments made by liberals reflect negatively on their character, morals, and manners. Liberals have a naive and almost childish trust of big government and exhibit a total disregard for the warnings issued by America’s founding fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Patrick Henry and others. Liberals present a danger to the continuation of American freedom.

The new National Rifle Association president is correct in calling the Civil War “The War of Northern Aggression”. In 1860-1861 the Federal government of the United States of America was taken over by New England radicals, fanatics, zealots and hypocrites. Most people in the South were in favor of gradual emancipation of slaves and slavery was already a dying institution before the war. There were 5 times as many abolition societies in the South as in the North. It was the Northern states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and New York that had brought the slaves from Africa to America. They sold the slaves to the South and then their hypocritical Yankee descendants accused the South of grave moral sin for having slavery.
But in 1857 Hinton Helper wrote a book “The Impending Crisis Of The South”. It was a terrorist manifesto. It PROMISED (not threatened) that a massive slave rebellion would be started that would result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Southern men, women, and children if the South did not immediately free slaves. Southerners were aware that in the 1790 era in Santo Domingo (Haiti) virtually every white French man, woman, and child was murdered in a massive slave rebellion. In 1859 terrorist and psychopath John Brown tried to start such a rebellion. The New England radicals and fanatics financed Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry Virginia.
The Republican party from 1854 to 1877 was what the Democratic party is today-Socialist. 68 of 117 Republican Senators and Congressmen had signed a resolution based on the Helper book advocating and supporting terrorism against the South.
It was the “Agitation Against Slavery” and not the “Perpetuation of Slavery” that coupled with the unfair and unjust sectional tariff that were 8 of the causes of Southern secession. The South was paying 75-85% of the cost of operating the Federal government via this tariff. Lincoln had promised to raise the tariff higher if elected and he did. The MORRILL TARIFF Tax was 40% or more and the South did not have the votes to stop it’s passage.
The Southern states were offered the CORWIN AMENDMENT to the U.S. Constitution on March 2, 1861 if they would rejoin the Union and agree to pay the 40% MORRILL TARIFF TAX. They declined and seceded. Lincoln’s “Save The Union” rant was a code for “Keep The Tax Money Coming”. The famous English writer Charles Dickens summed it up “The Northern onslaught against Southern slavery is a specious piece of humbug designed to mask their desire for the economic control of the Southern states”.
What followed was an epic struggle in which the South outnumbered 3 to 1 and with most manufacturing located in the North fought heroically and valiantly for INDEPENDENCE from the tyrannical, despotic, and dictatorial North.
Lincoln, Sherman, Sheridan, Hunter, Custer and other Yankee officers were WAR CRIMINALS of the most vile type. They murdered, raped, stole, plundered, pillaged, and burned their way across the South. Upon destruction of the South these same Yankee terrorists and psychopaths carried out a war of extermination against the Native American Indians.
The new NRA president has every logical reason to refer to the Civil War as The War of Northern Aggression. And Southerners and other knowledgeable Americans have every reason not to trust the Federal government.

  10. James W. King: The only thing missing from your foolish, revisionist defense of the Confederacy is the argument that blacks actually benefited from slavery.
