Allen West is a sexist? Who knew?

Allen-West1

Gee whiz! What a surprise THIS is!

Former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) believes women have no place in elite military units, he said Tuesday in a Facebook post accusing President Barack Obama and the Defense Department of enacting a policy change that does not take combat roles seriously enough.

“Being in close quarters special operations combat units is not a social gathering,” he said, reacting to news that women will be able to start training as Army Rangers and Navy SEALs starting in the next few years. “There is no equality in close combat. The goal is simple: you physically overpower the enemy and kill them. Don’t tell me about technology, war is about fighting and fighting is about killing, mano y mano.”

Despite West’s apparent concern about women being unprepared to kill, the standards for females to enter combat units of any sort will not be lowered, meaning that everyone training for the roles must pass the same rigorous physical and mental tests.

The Associated Press reported that military officials believed expanding the role of women could help address the scourge of sexual assault in the military…

West had a different take, seemingly suggesting that putting women in combat roles would only encourage such aggressive behavior, perhaps because males would feel that their “warrior” status was being compromised by their female counterparts.

——-

Oh, I get it now. West is afraid that the “warrior” status won’t mean as much to men if there also are women warriors. Consequently, the men will be more likely to sexually assault women just to show them who the real warriors are.

So Pat you served so you can claim some expertise right?
God forbid that someone with actual combat experience could have an opinion that differs from yours.

  2. Robert

I knew, Pat. I knew Alan West as well as many in the minority communities have just as many prejudices as the supposed majorities? Why would that be so unusual? Because minorities are supposed to be sensitive to other minorities because they’ve been mistreated and unfairly categorized and stereotyped, so they should know better? Minorities can the worst when it comes to treating and seeing other minorities as equals in the pursuit of their piece of the pie.

I don’t think prejudice exist so much in the organizations that represent minorities, many in that level of vision see the common causes and often times share strategies. But within the rank and file of the various minority groups, there’s plenty of prejudice.

Wilson, taking anything serious that this guy says whould make you an idiot. If he was white nobody whould ever listen to a word he says….but because republicans cling to any black man that might agree with there twitsed views on race relations….he’s in.
That is also why he was only a 1 termer….as soon as everybody heard this guy speak….gone, done outa here…just the same as Herman Cain did…with his 9,9,9, plan crap

  4. Neftali

Brian would be happy to know that Republicans are making steady progress on bringing our black friends over to the side of truth and prosperity.

About a year ago, former Alabama Rep. Artur Davis switched to the Republican party. Today we have the only black Senator in Tim Scott from South Carolina, and Mia Love appears ready to win her election as a Rep from Utah.

And now, Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory has switched parties and joined the forces of good. Here’s his video explaining his decision.

“Redistricting due to the 2010 census made his district more Democratic” (he lost by around 2500 votes)
“West’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters, one Valor Device); Army Achievement Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster); Valorous Unit Award; Air Assault Badge; and the Master Parachutist Badge.[3][13]”
Brian, you are beginning to sound like a racist, but I won’t say your are.
How does your military career measure up to his?
    How about your education?
“entered the United States Army in 1983 when he graduated from the University of Tennessee. West is the third of four consecutive generations in his family to serve in the United States armed forces.[9] He later received a master’s degree in political science from Kansas State University. He also earned a master of military arts and sciences degree from the US Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military history and operations.[3]”

So should we listen to you instead?

  6. wilson: You’ve left a few things out of West’s resume.

He was a one-and-done member of Congress. He’s a Tea Party crackpot who was fond of such McCarthyesque nonsense as his claim that “78 to 81″ members of the Democratic caucus in Congress were “card-carrying communists.”

Oh, by the way, West had to retire from the Army to avoid a court-martial for his involvement in the beating of an Iraqi detainee. West paid a $5,000 fine for an Article 15 violation.

  7. Brian Opsahl

Wilson, you almost sound like his mouthpiece….really, all those accolades yet he is still a huge jerk…and it’s obvious you republicans like him….and that is why he LOST only his second election…the democrats that got fooled the first time but not the second time…if only your bush could say that…

Why is it that the nuttier republican you are, the more folks like you cling to them…?

  8. Brian Opsahl

    Nef,

The black friends your republicans constantly vote against…just like the Hispanics,Asians and all the rest of us you guys hate so much…will vote by 92% against you…if your black,78% if your Asian,72% if your a Latino….so go ahead and dream some more with your BS….and thanks for my laugh of the day..!!!

  9. Wilson,

Appreciate his military service? You bet, just as I appreciate the sacrifice of every vet.

Listen to him? Fat chance! Military service is no reason to pay heed to someone who makes these kinds of idiotic public remarks:

“If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat party.”

Of Democrats: “Take your message of equality of achievement. … You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America.”

To an Iraqi POW: “This is it. I’m going to count to five again, and if you don’t give me what I want, I’m going to kill you.”

Liberal women “have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness — to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow…deficits will continue to grow.”

The Democratic party is a “21st-century plantation.”

Attorney General Holder is a “bigger threat” than Al Qaeda.

“I think that we also should be censoring the American news agencies which enabled Wikileaks to do this.”

“The Angel of Death in the form of an American Bald Eagle will visit you and wreak havoc and destruction upon your existence.”

“Every time I see one of those Coexist bumper stickers, I look at the person inside that is driving. Because that person represents something that would give away our country.”

And then the kicker: “I’m very concerned about this very divisive rhetoric,” West said of President Obama, apparently unaware of the glaring irony. And then added, “I don’t think there’s anything divisive about me.”

  10. Steverino

West is just another talking head case for Roger Ailes. He became extremely unpopular in Florida after many realized they voted for a buffoon who only represented a small number of teabaggers and their outrageous agenda of obstruction. He’s lucky he’s not doing time in Leavenworth.

  11. Nef,

Not to pry, but are you a stay-at-home Dad? Watch a lot of kids’ shows on the tube?

I’m just trying to get a feel for your bizarre diction, such as calling the GOP “the side of truth and prosperity” and “the forces of good”. I hate to break it to you, but none of your favorite pols are in the Justice League.

I suggest you turn off Hickelodeon and pick up a book with words in it.

  12. Brian Opsahl

    Ouch..!!

So your excuse that he lost his election was redistricting….and NOT his foul mouthed communist screeming tantrums that he thinks made him famous…

I have this bridge for sale in Brooklyn….you interested…?

  13. wilson

Just saying, I wonder how many of you have any military experience. You so called military experts can have your opinions but he can’t have his.

So do we need to go tit for tat on stupid things all politicians say?

Are we not getting off subject? West is sexist because he has an opinion based on experience and education of which I know Pat and Brian can even begin to match.

“An officer of unusually high integrity, the colonel had reported himself to his chain-of-command for firing a pistol near – not at – near, the head of an Iraqi prisoner to “get him to talk.” The tactic worked, and the prisoner divulged plans for an upcoming attack that could have cost several American lives.

What was Odierno’s reaction? Apparently, on the poor advice of some very stupid JAG officers, he lowered the boom on West. The colonel was immediately relieved of command – a sure “career killer” – and given the specious “choice” of either resigning his commission just three days before qualifying for a retirement pension and benefits, or facing court martial, which could bring him up to eight years in military prison!

“POLITICAL CORRECTNESS” IN A COMBAT ZONE

That West didn’t follow “proper procedures” in questioning the prisoner is undisputed. The colonel acknowledged that, in saying he did it in order to protect his men. The outstanding career officer said at his Article 32 hearing that he would “walk through hell with a gasoline can” in his hand if it meant he could save his troops. “I am prepared to lay down my life for any one of them, if need be,” he said.”

  14. Brian Opsahl

All that and he comes home sounding like Joe McCarthy….what comes out of his mouth is his choice and everything he says he owns…wilson.

Have you red his BS or are you just blindly one of his followers….loosers…or whatever else you call it…?

Who is it that says he didn’t deserve his artical 32…him or the ones who investigated him…?

  15. wilson

Foll0w the link Brian, you should like it, it lambasts Rumsfeld.
Stay on the subject Brian, this is about his being sexist for questioning the wisdom of having women in combat and specifically as Seals and special forces.
    Lets discuss your military expertise.

So have you read any books about Joe?

  16. Brian Opsahl

I have absolutly no Military experience at all….however
My youngest Brother was a Marine MP….and is now a Police officer for over 20 years
My next youngest is a LT.Colonel…who just finished a tour in Kawait 1 year away from his family…my Dad served in the Air Force…his Brothers and my Uncles served in the Navy,Marines and Army….all of them Honorably…with no artical 32s or disscharges…so

Having asked my Brother what he thinks of a women serving in combat his re-ply…classic…he is married to a Marine who then became a police officer…and she can hold her own most of the time…as he puts it…plus she carrys a gun…..so I will take his opinion wilson and for your information….he is a voting republican….!!!

  17. Neftali wins the award for dumbest comment of the day with his claim that “Republicans are making steady progress on bringing our black friends over to the side of truth and prosperity.”

Yeah, sure they are. Blacks are flocking to the GOP in droves. The Democratic Party is doomed.

  18. wilson

    Brian,
Well again that is your brothers opinion, so if he had commented that he didn’t think too many would get through Seal training, would he be a sexist?
Also, did he make that comment when his wife was within hearing distance? :-)

In addition, you did read the circumstances for the article 32?
So sacrificing ones career to protect your men makes a bad guy?

  19. Wilson,

Where do you get off putting words in people’s mouth? No one said West can’t have his opinion. Quite the opposite, in fact. West gets more airplay for his opinions than almost anyone else in the country.

As for military experience, I have plenty. And it makes NO DIFFERENCE to this discussion, because the leadership in our military has already weighed in on these topics.

Here’s what the real-life military experts have concluded (not Pat, Brian, me, or you):

    > Women are just as capable of serving in combat roles as men, if properly trained and qualified.

    > Abusing enemy POWs is a very serious offense, and threatens the security of both our troops and our nation as a whole (see Abu Ghraib). This fact is not driven by “political correctness”. It is based on the “military expertise” of Army leaders.

    > Allen West abused an enemy POW, was evaluated by (highly-qualified) JAG officers, and his (very-experienced) superiors felt he deserved the punishment he received. They took into account the facts of West’s behavior and were not swayed by his “walk through hell for my troops” excuses. In the real world, the way to keep troops safe is to follow orders, period.

So tell me, why don’t you trust the conclusions of these real people with “military expertise”? Oh that’s right, you read something you like better on the internet.

  20. wilson

Luke, this was about name calling West a sexist for his opinion.
I disagree, military experience is important, not politics. So what branch of the military and define “plenty”

Who was the JAG officer? So who are the “real life military” experts?

Abuse? “the colonel had reported himself to his chain-of-command for firing a pistol near – not at – near, the head of an Iraqi prisoner to “get him to talk”

I guess it all depends on the definition of abuse is. Maybe a drone attack would have been more humane..give me a break.
    > Women are just as capable of serving in combat roles as men, if properly trained and qualified.

No argument, as long as they don’t reduce the standards, I am interested to see who the first one will be that makes it through Seal training.

  21. Brian Opsahl

So judging from West and his artical 32 and hearing what he has said about his congressmen co-harts and communism in general…I whould tend to believe the JAG officer….and they don’t just throw out these charges for no reason….right..!!

  22. wilson

Who was the JAG officer? Exactly what do you believe that this unnamed JAG officer said that you agree with?
