I guess THIS means that the governor’s putative bid for the White House won’t enjoy much support from the Religious Right:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is expected to sign a bill Monday that will prohibit licensed therapists from attempting to convert gay minors into heterosexuals, the Associated Press reported.

The AP obtained a bill with a signing note that will be released Monday. In the note, Christie said “he believes people are born gay and homosexuality is not a sin,” according to the AP.

His signature on the bill Monday will make New Jersey the second state — following California — to ban the therapy, which is opposed by both the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association.

This isn’t a surprise. This is what Christie said two months ago.

I’ve made it very clear since 2009 that I believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. I’ve said that, I ran on that, I’ve said it consistently. That doesn’t mean, in any way shape or form, that I have anything against folks who are homosexual. In fact, I’ve said I believe people are born that way. I don’t believe it’s a choice … you were born with your sexual preference. But I believe that the institution of marriage for 2,000 years has been between a man and a woman.”

Of course Christie could use a little help researching the history of marriage. This grand institutes of “marriage” isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. It certainly hasn’t consistently meant a singular man and a singular woman as he claims. But this incoherent stance is probably enough to please most members of the religious right.

The Queen of England NAILS it.

“I don’t like to badmouth people,” she said. “But I’m the head of a monarchy that began in the ninth century, and I’m apparently more modern than Chris Christie.”

After shocking observers with her opening salvo, she continued to tear Gov. Christie to shreds.

“Look, I know he has to appeal to the crazy right wingers in his party,” she added. “But the fact is, he’s not as forward-thinking as an eighty-seven-year-old lady who wears a crown on her head. It’s pathetic.”
