Ted Cruz has his own Rev. Wright — his dad!
In terms of political impact, not much ever came of the tireless efforts by right-wingers to link Barack Obama to the excessive rhetoric of his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The anti-Wright campaign did nothing to prevent Obama from winning the presidency twice.
But Sen. Ted Cruz, a prospective candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, might not find it so easy to dissociate himself from his own problematic preacher — his father, the Rev. Rafael Cruz (above).
Obama more or less threw the Rev. Wright under the proverbial bus, and the whole subject soon faded to relative obscurity — except, of course, among the pathological Obamaphobes.
But how can Ted Cruz throw his own father under the bus? The rhetoric attributed to the Rev. Cruz is worse than Rev. Wright’s, but Ted can’t readily disown his father’s more extreme remarks — mainly because that stuff is gospel truth to certain elements of the Republican base.
A CLASSIC EXAMPLE of the Rev. Cruz’s crazy theories surfaced just this week:
Rafael Cruz, the father of tea party-backed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), has warned Americans that equal rights for LGBT people and the theory of evolution are essentially communist lies that are being used by the American government to destroy the family and control the population.
