In his first Senate speech in two years, Mark Kirk bravely endorses gay rights

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, the Illinois Republican  who suffered a stroke in January of last year and subsequently underwent brain surgery, delivered his first floor speech in nearly two years yesterday.

Kirk’s remarks were brief — and also at odds with a certain strain of intolerance not uncommon among the far-right elements of his party’s base.

He spoke in favor of legislation that would prohibit discrimination against gays in the workplace.
