Wingnuts outraged at Obama shaking hands with Cuban president

Gorbachev and Reagan Shake Hands

If you’re one of those who occasionally go slumming in the right-wing blogosphere just for the laughs, you’ll likely see lots of snarky stuff today about President Obama shaking hands with Cuban President Raul Castro at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

No, the disgraceful gesture at issue is not shown in the photo above. Rather, that’s Ronald Reagan joyously glad-handing Mikhail Gorbachev, who wasn’t exactly a Boy Scout.

For lots more photos of American presidents shaking hands with world leaders of dubious repute, check HERE.

Meanwhile, you can fully expect some Republican knuckledragger to cite Obama’s gesture of politeness to Castro as grounds for impeachment of the foreign-born, terrorist-loving, America-hating, Muslim usurper of the American presidency.

Is the right still trying to portray Obama as someone who bows to our enemies and colluded with dictators? They are only fooling their constituents.

  3. What’s better, being an Eagle Scout or a Nobel Peace Prize winner?

I think Castro is trying to decide which award he is going to try and pursue. Maybe he just wanted to ask his friend Barack for advice?

The Nobel Peace Prize 1990 was awarded to Mikhail Gorbachev “for his leading role in the peace process which today characterizes important parts of the international community”.

And don’t forget W giving Chancellor Merkel a shoulder massage.

It is understandable that some people would be upset, especially those of Cuban-American decent who are familiar with the evil of the Castro brothers. And actually, in a setting like this, Mandela’s memorial, it more than likely would’ve been viewed as tacky if the Castro-bro extended his hand and Obama refused.

Where I think the Big-O really stepped in it was deciding that the service/celebration was the perfect spot for a selfie. You would think that for someone who claims to have been heavily influenced by Mandela that Obama would have had the decency to refrain from something like that. Heck, if anyone would’ve done a selfie with a hot blond world leader I would’ve thought it’d be Clinton.

Oh, and Steverino, last time I checked Merkel didn’t murder and oppress the people of her country, but I guess that’s minor details to you libs.

than1, the USA Govt just supports dictators who murder and oppress if it in the best interest of our national security and the corporations that benefit from that relationship, like when we were buds with Saddam Hussein, even after he gassed his own people.. eee gads.. do you need other examples? Who was that Pinochet guy? What was he famous for?

I’m sorry Robert, I thought the subject of this post was the person with whom the president shook hands, not the president / America. But if you’d like to play along with that, don’t forget our current president. The man who won the Nobel Peace Prize before he even did anything. That beacon of peace and hope, who’s become well versed in giving the ol ‘Hellfire Handshake’.

Next time, please focus on the subject of the post. My Merkel comment was in reply to Steverino’s attempt to paint Bush as worse than Obama. He failed of course, but when’s that ever stopped a lib?

        • My response was to your Merkel comment which was in response to Steverinos comment which was in response to a GW comparison, which you commented on and I further expanded upon to which you thought wasn’t relevant because it didn’t follow the Cuban incident, which I used to connect your response to Steverino and make relevant to my response to you. I think?

I don’t get the Eagle Scout reference, Doc. Were you making reference to some other President that was an Eagle Scout? Because that’d be Gerald Ford and he isn’t used in too many comparisons.

  7. Milton it was in response to Pat’s attempt at snarkiness-

“Mikhail Gorbachev, who wasn’t exactly a Boy Scout.”

He may not have been a boy scout, but he is a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

W did get a kiss back from the Iraqi people only it came in the form of two flying shoes.

I saw this today. There were a lot of people honoring Mandela including the Clintons, the Bushes and others traveling on Air Force One with Obama.
I think Fox News and its audience look to upset themselves over something Obama has done. http://www.policymic.com/articles/76375/8-photos-you-didn-t-see-from-obama-s-trip-to-south-africa
