Regarding America’s never-ending conversation about matters of race

This month’s 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is another excuse, as if we’ve ever needed one, to talk about race in America.

This nation has been talking about race since its very inception. The conversation has changed in countless ways over the years. It’s dramatically changed even during my lifetime, which is now in its eighth decade. But it never ends.

The other day, I ran across an especially provocative contribution from John McWhorter to this ongoing conversation about race. It’s not necessarily what you might expect a liberal such as I to recommend. Nor am I going to tell you which parts with which I agree or disagree.

I’m just asking that you read it — and then read it again. And then think about it.
