Why would Democrats want to replace Boehner with an even worse speaker of the House?

The answer to the question in the headline above is simple:

Democrats would not want to replace John Boehner as speaker of the house — at least not until they take control of the body in some future election.

Granted, Boehner is a pretty poor leader, and his approval rating among Americans in general is far from impressive.

But Democrats don’t want far-right Republicans to give Boehner the boot.

Mike Lillis EXPLAINS:

Democrats from across an ideological spectrum say they’d rather see Boehner remain atop the House than replace him with a more conservative Speaker who would almost certainly be less willing to reach across the aisle in search of compromise. Replacing him with a Tea Party Speaker, they say, would only bring the legislative process — already limping along — to a screeching halt.

“I’d probably vote for Boehner [because] who the hell is going to replace him? [Ted] Yoho?,” Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) said Wednesday, referencing the Florida Tea Party Republican who’s fought Boehner on a host of bipartisan compromise bills.

“In terms of the institution, I would rather have John Boehner as the Speaker than some of these characters who came here thinking that they’re going to change the world,” Pascrell added.

Liberal Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) agreed that for Democrats, replacing Boehner could lead to a worse situation.

“Then we would get Scalise or somebody? Geez, come on,” said Grijalva, who referenced House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.). “We can be suicidal, but not stupid.”

Not sure Boehner can continue to drink and smoke and stay in control of his faculties. Seems to get worse with every news conference.

  2. This is yet another reason for folks with intact consciences and entire brains to abandon the Democratic Party.

The Republicans are hitting the US working class over the head with a hammer.

Does it really make much difference whether it’s a 10 pound hammer or a 5 pound hammer?

Real Democrats, i.e., those who still remember their New Deal working class values and priorities, would be glad to see the Republican Party implode for the chance to take the hammer out of their hands.

“If you give them enough rope they will hang themselves.”

Let the Republican self-inflicted necktie party begin!
