ABC’s nightly newcast TOOK A BATH in the ratings last week after the network’s scandalously poor handling of the Democratic presidential debate.
Idiots.
Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

Never mind whether it was Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama who did better in tonight’s Democratic presidential debate on ABC.
The real story was the amazingly awful performances by moderators Charles Gibson (above) and George Stephanopoulos, who spent the first 45 minutes belaboring the campaign’s sideshow issues — and didn’t raise the level of discourse by much after that.  It was truly embarrassing.
It was so bad, in fact, that the crowd booed Gibson at the end.
More reactions HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE.
UPDATE: I like THIS GUY’s take.
UPDATE II (Thursday morning): The Washington Post’s Tom Shales, the nation’s preeminent TV critic, SAYS Gibson and Stephanopoulos “turned in shoddy, despicable performances.”
UPDATE III (Thurs.): THIS ONEÂ tells you a lot about the myth of the “liberal” media.

The “journalists” at the Disney-owned network are sure we need to know about THIS.

It’s one thing for campaign partisans to misquote or otherwise misrepresent a rival, but it’s especially outrageous when a so-called respectable news shop does it.
Take the case of ABC News, which has quoted Bill Clinton out of context to make it appear that he favors a slow-down of the U.S. economy to help fight global warming.
Steve Benen has details HERE.

Why were the pre-election polls in New Hampshire pretty much spot-on in the Republican race but well off the mark on the Democratic side?
Gary Langer, the polling poobah at ABC News, EXAMINESÂ the matter.
