Since January, I’ve been very busy as a poet, open mike host, and I was featuredonce again in the Register Star’s GO Section for my work as a host at Katie’s Cup’sOpen Mike Night. Free Your Voice, the open mike at Katie’s Cup, has grown to be animpressive, multi-talented, and popular venue for poets, musicians, and singers a like.Night in and night out, this open mike shows me how much talent there is here in Rockfordand the area, and how badly we need venues downtown for these hungry artists to be featuredat. Because of my tiring and hard work, I have been asked to be featured at a number of eventshere in the area. These events include an annual Black HIV/AIDS day event held by the local AIDS/HIVactivist group BUSUA, Spectrum School’s annual Poetry Slam led by teacher Kathryn Hopkins, and the recently held Rockford Helps Haiti Event, in which I performed with local jazz phenom HarlanJefferson. All of this has been in the name of the local arts scene, and Rockford/Northern Illinois poetry.Open Mike Night at Katie’s Cup will return on Friday March 5th, 2010. 7PM. Katie’s Cup is located at502 7th St. The open mike goes on until 9PM. I will be hosting the Poetry Open Mike night for theyoung professional group IGNITE on March 4th, 2010 at 7PM. Their first, and hopefully not their last,Poetry Open Mike Night will take place at Meg’s Daily Grind. Located at 1141 N. Alpine Road.Attached to this blog is my latest Youtube video for my Spoken Word poem I Am A Poet. This is arock and rap remix of the popular poem I’ve performed at various open mikes and venues across theUnited States.Continue to love and support the local arts scene, as well as poetry and open mikes!
