With the weather finally breaking, I can feel the excitement in the air!

There’s nothing better than going downtown Rockford on a warm summer evening, eating at an outdoor café and walking around enjoying all of the music and art that surrounds the Rock River.  As I got out my calendar and started planning my next few months, I found plenty to do even before summer officially arrives.

Auditions for Songs of Love and Flowers

Without Shoes Modern Dance Company is holding auditions for its spring concert, which will be open to all adult dancers, children, and high school students with dance experience.  Featuring songs by The Beatles and live music, the performance will take place Friday, March 25, 7:30 pm at Rockford College’s Maddox Theater, 5050 E. Floored by the powerfully methodical, geometric, and athletic display of Pilobolus Dance Theater at the Coronado Performing Arts Center’s one-time Friday, 10/15/10 performance, I yearn for more!

Infamous for its “Powered by You” Ford commercial, which aired in 2008, Pilobolous performed a series of mercury-fluid performances, executing unshakable sustained movements, discontinuous floor patterns, and unbelievable weight-sharing aerobatics.

Studio 11 Hip-Hop Instructor, Kenneth Studio 11 Dancers

Since 1997, Studio 11 Dance Company (633 Harlem Road in Machesney Park) has offered jazz, tap, ballet, pointe, hip-hop, modern, nursery ballet for ages three and four, boys hip hop, and adult classes. Performing annually in a June recital, dancers also have the opportunity to perform during community events or in a team at competitions. They also offer dance team prep classes, and will be offering modern dance classes twice a month.
