How do you ‘re-invent’ yourself mid-career?

The Associated Press reports that General Motors Corp. said today that a quarter of its U.S. hourly workers are taking the company’s latest buyout offers, opening the door for new hires who will make less money.
Yes, I know most of them will get tens of thousands of dollars in buyouts and will go back to school, start a business, go into a new career or retire.
