‘Road-rage-babes-in-waiting’

That’s what Register Star motorsports writer Doug Goodman called Dani Maxwell, WREX-13 anchor, and me after watching us talk smack about each other on a video about a June 20 race they’ll compete in at Rockford Speedway.
I beat Dani last year by two feet; Dani beat me the year before by a foot. Check it out, and see us, other media staffers, police, firemen, politicians and more race at the event that benefits Barbara Olson Center of Hope and The Police Memorial Museum at Midway Village Museum.
Winning last year was one of the biggest rushes of my life. Tell some of yours.

I didn’t win Friday night, but neither did Dani, so I’m OK with that but not happy about my driving.
Dani had car trouble and had to leave the track a few laps in.
I started in fifth position and came in second in the eight-lap race, losing by a car length of so.
Holly Swanson of Channel 51, who started up front, won.
Here’s what I did wrong: Didn’t push it at the start. I was off-kilter because we weren’t bunched up at the beginning and I thought we weren’t going to get the green flag yet. Duh.
Then, I worried too much about where Dani was, instead of just trying to get around the next car. After she left the track, I momentarily lost my umph.
It was great fun, though.
And I stayed with my family through the rest of the races, and they were a blast. The demolition derby was fun to watch and the fireworks were awesome.
What a great value for a $10 ticket for an adult, and the fact that the proceeds benefited the Barbara Olson Center for Hope was an added bonus.
