The French food is OK when it’s in a bistro setting that appeals to a smaller customer base. But when it and higher prices appear then the larger customer base will go elsewhere. We’ve had that experience. It’s true that Jim was always out and about, and I think Michael did also. But I think it was the lack of appeal of the type of food and pricing to a wider audience that may have driven away customers. Plus, changing the hotel, redesigning the halls and removing all the photos and letters changed the atmosphere. I know it’s a new owner wanting to put his imprint on his business, but when you add up all the changes, it may be what drove customers away.
It will be interesting to see what changes Jim makes and how it impacts customer volume! Is this a classic turnaround?

Since I’ve never had a good dining experience at Cliffbreakers it really doesn’t affect me as to Vitale comes back or not. The food and service were always “so-so” and the decor of the place seemed to have a bit of a bordello atmosphere. But, I only ate there back in the days when Jim ran the place.
The the in-laws always thought the place had some semblance of prestige.
Now that they’re dead (not due in any way to the food at Cliffbreakers) I’ve no reason to go.

It doesn’t matter who runs the place, as long as Phillippe is there, the food will always taste horrible. He need to get out of the box, and not cook the same stuff from like 20 years ago. They don’t change the buffet items until it is completely gone, even when is all dried out. Most of the items are either overcooked or completely blend. The sauce on my steak was worst then the powder gravy stuff you get at the grocery store. I think they need to hire a new chef or they may end up losing everything. Also, I went into a mice one time while dining there, surprisingly the place is still open, and haven’t been shut down yet. All they want is your money, they don’t care about anything else. I highly recommend anybody with a right mind not to go there ever.

Jimmy Vitale is a great host and a remarkable success.
He built Cliffbreakers on a bautiful site overlooking the
River and the view changes from season to season…
making dinner especially pleasant. I give Vitale a TEN.
