If you’d like a free DVD and a CD, “The Oak Ridge Boys, An Inconvenient Christmas,” tell all here by 10 a.m. Monday why you like the Boys so much.
I’ll choose the response I like best, and you’ll get the CD and DVD. I’ll notify the winner via e-mail and will post my choice here.
The Oak Ridge Boys play at the MetroCentre Wednesday, Dec. 10. I plan to review it, so check back later. Also, I’ve written a preview story that’ll run this Saturday in the paper. I’ll get you the link when it’s posted at rrstar.com.

Oh, and by the way, did you read this?
Employees of Sonoco Paper Co. in Rockton, which this week said it will close, and Modern Metals of Loves Park, which has filed for bankruptcy, will receive tickets for the Oak Ridge Boys “Christmas Cookies Tour” concert Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Rockford MetroCentre, courtesy of NiteLite Promotions and the Oak Ridge Boys. They also will receive tickets to a Rockford IceHogs game of their choice, courtesy of the Rockford IceHogs.

They sing Gospel and Country Music. They also honor the troops and the veterans. My husband is a Viet Nam veteran and always comments on how nice it is that groups like THE OAK RIDGE BOYS wil go overseas to entertain the people serving our nation.

I have been a fan of the OAK RIDGE BOYS since I first heard them at FAN FARE in 1984. I have a picture with them and their autographs. I enjoyed them so much I followed them to St. Louis and Owensboro, KY for their concerts.

I love the Oak Rigde Boys. My father died when I was 14 and my mother was left with 3 teenagers. She did not drive and had never even written a check. So, when things got too overwhelming she would play records. My favorites were the songs by the Oak Ridge Boys So, while my girlfriends idols were Elvis and The Beatles, I dreamed of Richard Sterban and his deep voice. Now years later, the vinyl is gone along with the 8 tracks and cassettes, but when I need a lift in spirit or I can not sleep or just want to hear great music, I load my CD player or grab my IPod because nothing soothes the soul like a little Um papa mow mow. My husband always takes me to their concerts when they are in Rockford or we are in Branson. Their Christmas Tours are always fantastic.

My family grew up listening to the Oaks. My kids knew they each had a part to sing in “Dig a Little Deeper in the Well” when it came on the 8-track in the car. At the county fair in Freeport, Joe autographed his new children’s book for my baby granddaughter,Hannah. Now Hannah sings Richard’s “Giddyup ba oom pa pa mow mow”in “Elvira”. We have enjoyed many of their concerts over the years. The last time they were in town my daughter surprised me with front row seats for my birthday. William appeared to be singing ‘Thank God for Kids” directly to Hannah and then gave her a candy cane. Joe waved at Hannah, but she was too shy to return the wave. Joe persisted and pouted until she did. This year I really couldn’t afford to buy the tickets so we were all disappointed. Friday my son bought us tickets for my birthday from his first paycheck after finishing school. These guys are really special to us.

Why do I like the Oak Ridge Boys? I have been a fan for 27 years now, since 1981 when Elvira came out. From that point to today, I`ve really enjoyed their music as well as being well respected human beings and is a great pillar to this country. their music is comforting to me whenever I am down and need some encourgement in my life, I can always count on them to make me feel good about myself again. I am a only child and I can honestly say that they helped me get through the tough times. I hope I can meet them someday, that is my dream right now. God bless the U.S.A and the Oak Ridge Boys. Thank-You.

My mom dragged me to every single concert when I was little. Metro Centre, Coronado, county fairs…..we went to them all. Over the years, she was no longer dragging me…I was really starting to enjoy going. I am now 38 years old, and my 11 year old daughter loves the Oak Ridge Boys. It has become a family tradition for the 3 of us to go to their chrismas concert every year. It is so nice to have music that all ages can enjoy.
