Cirque show brought in 15,000-plus to MetroCentre

Cirque du Soleil’s “Saltimbanco” sold more than 15,000 tickets for its nine-show run at the MetroCentre Feb. 24 to March 1. MetroCentre officials were pleased with the show overall, a spokesman said.

That only averages out to a touch over 1,600 a performance in a venue with a 10,000 seat capacity.
I’m sure they expected many, many more.

Hoke: Well, the Cirque promoters said they were hoping to only have up to 4,000 at each of their Saltimbanco shows anywhere to provide a bit of intimacy.
And given the fact the Saltimbanco played several shows just a few weeks before at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates (bad planning on somebody’s part, if you ask me), seems like it would have been hard to lure Chicagoland folks to Rockford.
I am sure with regard to attendance, the MetroCentre would have liked to have had many more attendees.
But the only comment I could get was they were “pleased with the show overall.”

I’ve heard nothing but good reviews of their performances. But, the way the economy’s going these days I doubt if many $50+ tickets will be selling for anything or anyone.
I see Patty Larkin (an epic performer) was moved to Mendelssohn from the Coronado and those seats were much less.
I wonder how Lightfoot tickets are selling.

Hoke: I think you’re right about high-priced tix. But Toby Keith sold out Feb. 21 at MetroCentre with 7,500 fans paying $50 or $35.

Re: Lightfoot. Still lots of tickets available. Read rrstar.com before Saturday for story I wrote from my interview with him a few weeks ago. It’ll be in Saturday’s GO section,

If you get any freebie tickets I’ll be glad to take ‘em off your hands.

Hoke: Ha. We don’t even get free tickets. Every time I review a concert, the company pays for my ticket and not that of anyone who goes with me. We don’t take tickets from promoters or venues. It’s an ethics thing.

    Awww, a boy can dream.

I always thought it was a tax thing when you got freebies for review. An ” if you keep ‘em you have to declare ‘em as income” sorta thing.
    Too bad.

But, pay your way to Patty Larkin the week after next. She’s well worth the $$$

Hoke: I’ll see how my personal budget at home is looking for entertainment expenses. May not make the cut.
