I’m afraid that President Obama, although having some knowledge of the Islamic faith, has sorely underestimated the eschatology that fuel Iran’s foreign policy.
The Iranian President, Ayatollah, and the Mullahs have a dangerous view as to their roll in the usherance of the 12th Imam’s return.
As a matter of fact, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad believes that he is the divinely appointed usher for said event, and believes it his life’s purpose to bring about Armageddon.
Dialogue with President Obama, or the Israelis (Netanyahu) will not go far. We can’t talk them out of thousands of years of religious views, and ideolgically-based hate.
Our failure to act jointly with Israel will end badly, and cost many innocent lives.

I think you are right on echo4. Obama is showing his inexperience in dealing with foreign countries. When he met with Canada he was corrected and lectured by the Prme Minister on just about everything he said. Very embarrassing.
Iran is going to respond saying it is all talk, no action, and in their minds they will perceive Obama as being weak. Iran is already saying that it is an offer was made only because the world is realizing they can’t stop their nuclear program. Iran is also calling for less support of Isreal as a prerequisite.
Obama should be very careful in what he says and does in dealing with Isreal especially with Netanyahu at the helm. Netanyahu is going to go after Iran and also Hamas with a vengeance. It would not surprise me to see a major war in the region in the very near future and it scares the hell out of me with Obama and his crew in the white house when it happens.
