This story in chicagonow.com makes a great point that
The American Girl Empire goes too far with its homeless doll

The writer says says she hopes that Mattel, the owner of American Girl, will “announce that 100 percent of the proceeds from this ill-conceived doll are going to be donated to organizations that can actually do something to help homeless children rather than exploit them for commercial purposes.”
I agree, and I bet you do, too. If not, tell why here in comments.

So, John Groh, chief of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be in Denmark Friday with President Obama when officials decide if Chicago will get the summer Olympics in 2016.
If Chicago gets the Olympics, would you expect you might attend any of the Olympic events?

Last Thursday, Steve Summers and Denise Pagano on their morning show on Q98.5 (WXXQ) compiled from listeners a list of 98 “things you need to know before you can call yourself a true Rockfordian.”
Check the list out and add your ideas here in the comments.
1. You have to live in Rockford should be the 1st rule!
2. You must go see a Rockford River Hawks game once.(they started as the Rockford Expo’s, then the Rockford Reds, Rockford Cubbies and now the Rockford River Hawks)
3. You must know that “A League of their Own” was about the Rockford Peaches.
4. You must complain about how ugly the MetroCentre is.
5. You must talk about how cool the Coronado is.
6. You must know what a Maid Rite is and like them….
7. You must complain about how long the lights are at East State and Alpine.
8. You must know that Aiden Quinn’s dad was a teacher in the Rockford School District.

Rockford native Kelly Killoren Bensimon, 40, a former model and star of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New York City,” will be featured semi-nude in the December issue of Playboy, according to InTouch Weekly.
Cityfile.com says that InTouch says that her ex-husband, photographer Gilles Bensimon, took the photos several years ago.

Fatally Unique Dance Crew of Rockford beat out two other dance teams in New York this week to win Wild Out Wednesday and will appear on BET-TV (Comcast 31) at 5 p.m. today on the “106th and Park: Top 10″ show.
The 20 young men and women in the group will compete next summer against other teams as a result of the win. They practice at the nCENTER in Rockford.

The works of Marjorie Peer, who uses computer software to convert old and new photographs into art that looks like traditional-style oil paintings, will be displayed through October at Wesley Willows.
Wesley Willows retirement community, 4141 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, will host an art show including Peer’s work tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Peer is owner of Peer Canvas.

Night Ranger, hard rockers known for 80s hits “Sister Christian” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me,” will headline the Rockford IceHog’s first Hogtoberfest Friday, Oct. 23, outside the MetroCentre in Rockford.

The pre-game block party on Elm Street will take place before the IceHogs take on the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:05 p.m.
Tickets purchased for the IceHogs game will be good for Hogtoberfest. Tickets cost $12 to $27 in advance, and a $1 more the day of the game. Gates for the block party open at 5 p.m., and you can buy hot dogs, hamburgers, beer and more at the party.

The River Key Subdivision’s S.S. River Key won first place in the Lighted Boat Parade Sept. 4 at On the Waterfront on the Rock River in downtown Rockford.
Those involved in lighting the pontoon boat were Mike and Pij Richter and grandchildren, Jill and Bill Callahan and Chuck and Jane Barber of the Rockford subdivision. Their boat beat out four other boats, and the group received $150.
