Should Dylan sing at MetroCentre from his new Xmas album?

October 14th, 2009 at 09:16am Georgette Braun

From what I’m reading, critics aren’t impressed with Bob Dylan’s “Christmas In The Heart,” which hit stores Tuesday, according to these stories in the Chicago Sun-Times and Newsweek.

Do you want to hear Dylan sing songs Oct. 28 at the Rockford MetroCentre from his new Christmas album?

I’ve been a rabid Dylan fan since ‘62 and have been through, like most true fans, all his different phases and still remained a fan.
But, this new album is the absolutely worst thing he’s ever done. There was so much potential to do a unique album and add a bit of spice to old chestnuts,. But no, a bland, vapid treatment of the same old same old with a voice unsuited to the genre. The backup arrangements are true to the 50’s era Christmas fare that I think he was going for, But why did he pick that period ? That was the most tedious, uninspiring and banal era of Christmas offerings ever.
Save your money - don’t buy it!
Give that cash to a local pantry and buy something decent:

The Roches - WE THREE KINGS
    Leon Redbone - CHRISTMAS ISLAND
Tiny Tim - TINY TIM’S CHRISTMAS ALBUM
Rounder Records Sampler - MUST BE SANTA!
Cyndi Lauper - MERRY CHRISTMAS, ,, HAVE A NICE LIFE!
Mary Chapin Carpenter - COME DARKNESS, COME LIGHT
    Jackie Gleason - SNOWFALL
Brave Combo - IT’S CHRISTMAS MAN!
    Mariah Carey - MERRY CHRISTMAS
John Fahey - THE NEW POSSIBILITY

    Actually, , ,
    Anything but Bob’s newest offering!

    Fortunately the question’s moot.
He’s not sung any of the Christmas tunes during his first 13 performances in this latest tour schedule. Iincluding last night’s show in Salt Lake City,

I need to hire you, hoke, as a researcher. Wait, you’re doing that now for no compensation. Thanks. I appreciate it.
