Symphony’s Black Magic Ball raises more money than last year

The Rockford Symphony Orchestra’s Black Magic Ball fundraiser on Nov. 7 raised $41,000, about $10,000 more than last year, the symphony’s new executive director Julie Schaper reports.
The online auction of items was one reason for the increase, she said. The auction included a piece by quilt artist Robin Gausebeck, a membership to a pie-of-the-month club and hot-air balloon rides, which I failed to acquire because I set my bidding limit at $400 for a two-person ride. I’ll have to raise my self-imposed ceiling next time.
About 200 people attended the ball this year at the Forest Hills Country Club in Loves Park. Admission tickets this year cost $150, down from $250 last year.
