Taylor Swift could take top CMA award tonight, wonder if MetroCentre could get her back now

1 comment November 11th, 2009

Country singing sensation Taylor Swift, 19, is the “hottest ticket in music,” and could take the top prize at tonight’s CMA awards, so says a headline on this Associated Press story.

Swift appeared at the MetroCentre in Rockford two years ago, opening for Brad Paisley. (See Register Star story HERE.) I get tired of hearing that the MetroCentre doesn’t book hot acts. True, she’s even hotter now than then. Wonder if the MetroCentre will try to get her back as top headliner anytime soon?

From what I’m reading, critics aren’t impressed with Bob Dylan’s “Christmas In The Heart,” which hit stores Tuesday, according to these stories in the Chicago Sun-Times and Newsweek.

And the Waterfront guitar winners are …

Add comment September 21st, 2009

Paul Wixom and Greg Diech, both of Rockford; Shawn Miller of South Beloit, and Jim Wallin of Sycamore.

These guys won the four Illinois-shaped guitars that were displayed for raffling at On the Waterfront in downtown Rockford over the Labor Day weekend. The drawing was held Friday. Raffle tickets cost $5.

The Illinois-shaped guitars were modeled after the logo for this year’s 26th music bash. Mike Bunjan of MedicineMan Inc. in Rockford designed the logo. He and a business partner have started a custom-guitar making business, which produced the Illinois-shaped electric guitars worth $1,000 each. Waterfront is the state’s largest street festival, covering 26 blocks.

Still waiting to hear from Waterfront officials on how many festival passes were purchased this year.
