Manufacturers Needed to Celebrate Manufacturing Day

Details are now being released about the National Manufacturing Day that will be held on October 5th.  This day has been designed to let the public and students expand their knowledge of local manufacturing companies and the careers that are available.

The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association (FMA) and the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) are producing this first ever event.  We will be asking local manufacturers to host an open house at their company.  The event will receive wide media coverage.  FMA will be working with the Rockford Chamber of Commerce to develop the program.

There will be a wealth of on-line resources available for interested persons and is available at MfgDay. Topics include:

  • What modern manufacturing facilities are really like these days
  • What the companies located in your community make and who they sell to
  • What kinds of jobs are available in manufacturing
  • What skills and background are needed to qualify for today’s manufacturing jobs

Local planning will include getting students to visit several of the host companies and get a first hand exposure to the real world of manufacturing.

While the planning is just getting underway, we would expect to have a large turnout of host companies and visitors by the time October 5th is here.
