RVC Women’s Basketball Undefeated; Head Coach Wins Her 200th!

Despite facing an 11-point halftime deficit, the top ranked Rock Valley College Women’s Basketball team managed to pull off a road win 62-61 at #6 Madison College. A Jaycee Cleaver field goal with 0.6 remaining proved to be enough for the Golden Eagles to move to 27-2 to finish the regular season, and a perfect 13-0 in N4C play. This marks the seventh consecutive year where RVC Women’s Basketball has either won the N4C title outright or earned a share of it.

After the first quarter, RVC was down 16-14. Heading into halftime, the WolfPack stretched their lead to 11, holding a 38-27 lead. The lead only grew a little bit more, 42-29, their largest deficit of the conference season. The Golden Eagles buckled down defensively and went on a 33-18 run to finish the basketball game, which included Cleaver’s last second heroics.

“I am proud of the grit our ladies showed,” said Head Women’s Basketball Coach Misty Opat, who won her 200th game as Head Coach at Rock Valley College with the victory over Madison College. “Although we found ourselves at a sizable deficit, but we continued to fight, claw, and scrape our way out.”

The Golden Eagles were led by 24 points and 13 rebounds from Tierra McGowan. Jaycee Cleaver added 14 points to go along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Chrisseesha Clark and Emily Cox each added 11 points, respectively.

The Golden Eagles earned the #1 seed in the Region IV Tournament hosted by Rock Valley College. They will have a first round bye, and will play the winner of #4 College of DuPage and #5 Milwaukee Area Technical College. Game time is set for 1 PM in the Physical Education Center.
