FAA shutdown has little impact in Rockford
Dozens of federally-funded airport projects a round the country stopped across after Congress failed to pass legislation Friday fund the Federal Aviation Administration.
But projects continue at Chicago Rockford International Airport. That’s because money for planned improvements at the airport where money had already been moved from the federal government to the state of Illinois for disbursement, said Amy Ott, acting interim director at the airport.
“The construction we have going is from last year’s grant so that money has already been shipped to Springfield,” Ott said.

FAA training issue led to end of passenger service from Rockford to Serbia, Croatia, before it began
Federally-required training issues are behind the grounding of a Swift Air charter flight Friday minutes before take off for Serbia and Croatia from Chicago Rockford International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration says it can’t comment on Swift because of an investigation, but the Phoenix-based charter airline said on its Website that a training issue led it to voluntarily cancel the flight.

Swift said it would deliver updated training manuals to the FAA today and hoped to quickly resume service. The route from Rockford to Belgrade, Serbia, and Zagreb, Croatia, doesn’t appear to be one that will restart.
