Bricks & Clicks
The Rockford Register Star is more than a newspaper: the ink on print or the “bricks” in the News Tower. We’re a multimedia news and information company: the “clicks” on our Web site and the TV clips on WREX-13. This blog explains our fast-changing media environment and interacts with our readers to show how and why we do what we do.

Fire him

3 comments January 22nd, 2008

In the news business, you deal with the public a lot. Most of the exchange is pleasant, but every once in awhile you come across a “Brenda.”

Using public access TV, Brenda Lowe asked that a GateHouse Media colleague in Needham, Mass., be fired. In an e-mail today to those who work in new media (online, mostly), Editor Greg Reibman said that Lowe had called for his head in a public access TV commentary. He also shared this:

I posted it on our blog and as you can see it has generated an  interesting conversation about blogs and our terms of use policy.

A common theme was expressed in e-mail discussion about this today. Most newsrooms have Brendas. I’ve only been here seven  years. To my knowlege, we’ve not had a Brenda air a TV spot — at least not during my tenure.

Check it out and share your thoughts. Curious to know what you think.
