Bricks & Clicks
The Rockford Register Star is more than a newspaper: the ink on print or the “bricks” in the News Tower. We’re a multimedia news and information company: the “clicks” on our Web site and the TV clips on WREX-13. This blog explains our fast-changing media environment and interacts with our readers to show how and why we do what we do.

would you pay 20 bucks for this news experience?

i’ve written before about the relocated, revamped newseum, which opens friday in our nation’s capital.

previously, there was much ado made over its $450 million price tag, especially since the news biz is struggling these days.

now there is some fussing over the $20 price of admission (like here and here). this usa today article addresses that to some extent.

there are even journalists who are dissing the newseum in general.

$20 is pretty steep, given the amount of historically important (and free to visit) monuments and museums in DC. I also agree with one of the blog commenters - the kitschy name is too similar to Nauseum.
Still, being a former mass media student, I’d probably visit it, but I’d have the rest of the family go check out the Holocaust Museum.

Will there be any atifacts/tributes/mentions of the Rockford Regisrer Star at the Newseum? You have had some tremendous writers there over the years.

not aware of any particular mentions of rrs, but we do post our front page for the newseum for online and museum display.

Javan, it’s a good question. I would think that there would at least be a room or two devoted to the Sweenster — and by that, I obviously mean, Chuck Sweeny. Want to start a petition drive to get a bronze bust made?

Gotta love the Sweenster. He seems to really be into this blogging thing.

But really, in the past, the newspaper did have great writers.

Who you got in mind? It’s hard to keep up with all the changes over there. Twentysomethings come and they go.I dont think any of ‘em match up with the Chuckster, or even the Movie Man.

You are hilarious with your sarcasm on Sweeney. Movie Man…he seems good. I can’t remember a lot of the names, but I do remember reading good stories in the Register Star in the past. They’ve had a lot of good crime coverage over the years. And columnists like Judy Emerson are great. Some of their sports writers, too.

I’ve been a long time reader, and I believe in giving credit where credit is do. Yes, they have their Chuck Sweeneys, but they have had some top-notch people, too.

No sarcasm intended. Everything I think about politics, I have learned from Chuck-e-roo. Judy is the best. I miss her. What about entertainment coverage? I’m a heavy metal fan and nobody does it better than the RRS.
    Awesome.
